Asda recommendations

I don't usually shop at Asda, but I have a voucher that needs using by the end of December.

Of course, I can just buy my usual things, but I wondered if anyone has any recommendations for anything that is particularly nice at Asda and/or that is not sold in other supermarkets?

They have a very nice clothes, home, gifts and seasonal section if you don't want to spend it on regular food.

Autumnleaves27 · 10/12/2024 13:56

Thank you @MermaidEyes I should have said - it will be an online order, so I think that rules out clothes.

School uniform!

Their online clothes/home etc is at ASDA Direct which is a separate site. You'd just need to check if they accept the same vouchers.

Autumnleaves27 · 10/12/2024 14:04

Thank you. It looks like I can only use the vouchers on the 'Groceries' website.

Oh then do you need anything FreeFrom or vegan? They have a very good range of dairy free stuff. Sorry, I'm not much help for regular food.

We like their smoked haddock and cheddar fish cakes (the “Special” range or whatever it is called)…not the melt in the middle ones.

Their garlic & herbs olives (usually 3 tubs for £7) and rosemary crackers.

MermaidEyes · 10/12/2024 14:14

How about tasty Christmas food and drink? Their Extra Special range has nice biscuits and cakes.

Autumnleaves27 · 10/12/2024 16:47

Thank you. Those truffles sound amazing! I will have a look at the cakes/biscuits.

I'll probably do my online order at the end of the week, so if anyone else has any suggestions, please let me know!

Just stock up on loo rolls, tins and cans of coke and then get stuff you know you like using the saved money from shops you usually go to. Nothing at Asda is better than any other shops. Most of it is pretty poor to be honest. Although I do like their curries and their bakery chocolate chip pancakes.

My dc only like their chilled sausage rolls. No other supermarket can compare apparently. I also think their sliced meats are nicer than Tesco or aldi. The ones on the two for £3 are all good. The own brand cheese is also good.

New potatoes (specially selected) and green beans also tend to be nice there than other local supermarkets. It not where I do the bulk of my shopping but end up going once a week as dc prefer certain things of theirs.

DampImpenetrableTumbleDryerBundle · 10/12/2024 17:02

Another vote for own-brand cheese - the extra mature cheddar is v good.

They are better stocked than other supermarkets round here but otherwise I go cos it’s cheap.

Middlemarch123 · 10/12/2024 17:08

Their fresh pizzas are nice. Their sausages and ready to roll pastry make lovely sausage rolls. Bakery is good. I get the bags of croissants, six for under £1.50, which are great warmed up.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 10/12/2024 17:23

Extra special white chocolate coated honeycomb

Rosecoffeecup · 10/12/2024 18:06

I'd stock up on any branded stuff on offer - they often have good deals - as their own brand stuff is pretty naff

Autumnleaves27 · 10/12/2024 20:23

Thanks for the ideas. Always good to get recommendations!

Wow - the Asda groceries app is awful! I usually use Sainsbury’s or Tesco and their apps are so much better than Asda. I definitely won't be switching to Asda after I've used this voucher.

Any more recommendations?
