Do you have to pay to see your kids nativity?

My kids state primary charges £5 per person per performance. Two kids in different shows with three performances each. It’s nice for someone to be at each one so share out the attendance between parents and grandparents. But the Kids also want to see each others. So that’s £40 to see the nativity.

Anyone else’s school charge?

My kid's school doesn't change, though they do have a donation bucket afterwards if you want to contribute.

Hightideattheseaside · 10/12/2024 08:58

I know they are trying to raise money as they don’t get much from the LA but feels a bit wrong!

I think that's outrageous. No parent should have to miss their child's nativity because they can't afford it

I was never charged! Donation bowl to the Salvation Army as the school used the hall.

Easypeasymacncheesy · 10/12/2024 09:01

Ours is £2.50 a ticket and you can only have 3. So maximum of £7.50 which I think is fair.

Thewrongdoor · 10/12/2024 09:02

We wouldn’t go to see each performance if it’s on three times. We’d only see one. A donation bucket at ours, plus a small cost per ticket. And only allowed two tickets per family.

Mostunexpected · 10/12/2024 09:02

DC recently changed schools. Both previous school and current one charge for tickets. £3/4 a ticket per person

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 10/12/2024 09:02

I believe all the school performances are £3 to attend.

doodleschnoodle · 10/12/2024 09:03

No but we get funnelled into the 'gift shop' after to buy stuff the kids have made Grin

Jazzjazzyjulez · 10/12/2024 09:04

£2 - max of two tickets and there is only one performance.

I don't mind - school is struggling so happy to help.

doodleschnoodle · 10/12/2024 09:04

Ours is just one performance for max two adults to attend though.

Pancakeflipper · 10/12/2024 09:04

There are buckets for contributions at ours and a team.of PTA parents serving coffees and mince pies/cakes (that you pay for).
That money is spent on art/ drama supplies.

CCLCECSC · 10/12/2024 09:04

2.50 per ticket. Initial allocation is 2 per family. 4 performances in total. They have to cover costs of hiring in stage lighting etc.

Caterina99 · 10/12/2024 09:04

Ours don’t charge for tickets, but they have a raffle and the PTA sell teas and coffee.

So you could go and spend zero, but it usually raises a decent amount of money so people obviously do bring money to spend.

2 performances. 2 tickets to each show per family

BarbaraHoward · 10/12/2024 09:06

£2 a ticket here. There's three shows and no expectation that they have someone in each show - ours does some years and doesn't in others depending on our work schedules etc.

The school puts a huge amount of work in and provides most of the costumes so I think it's a pretty good deal tbh.

DD's first nativity a few years ago was when energy prices went crazy and they didn't charge that year which I thought was a lovely gesture. I imagine if any family were in difficulties the school would waive the charge but I know it's not easy to admit you can't find the funds either.

ConflictofInterest · 10/12/2024 09:07

Yes, £2 but only 1 person per child per show is allowed (two shows)

Nc546888 · 10/12/2024 09:11

Free at our C of E primary school. You can donate via doing the raffle etc

GameOfJones · 10/12/2024 09:12

Ours doesn't charge at all. I think that's shocking really (to charge parents). Two performances and a maximum of two tickets per family so I'm going to one and DH is going to one.

They have a donation bucket at the end and all money collected goes to the local children's hospital.

AyrshireTryer · 10/12/2024 09:13

Seems a fair price. Maybe don't go to every performance.

Oaoejvr · 10/12/2024 09:13

£1 per ticket and it goes to the PTA, I think £5 is a lot and we buy 3 tickets per show for 2 children so £30 gone from the Christmas budget

InformerYaNoSayDaddyMeSnowMeIGoBlameALickyBoom · 10/12/2024 09:19

£2.50 here, kids in different year groups so have to pay for multiple, plus all the other stuff they have going on it's probably an extra £50/£60 over Xmas. It's bloody shocking, I wish they would space it all out over the year so they aren't putting so much pressure on parents of either paying up or their kids missing out.

DarkAndTwisties · 10/12/2024 09:23

Our doesn't charge at all. And I don't go to every show, I don't think that's necessary.

Verite1 · 10/12/2024 09:24

Nope. Ours doesn’t.

Dodgyshoulder · 10/12/2024 09:29

50p per person. I reckon they would make more if they didn’t charge and just asked for a donation though.

Disturbia81 · 10/12/2024 09:32

That's ridiculous!
