Within walking distance, i.e. a couple of miles, of Laing art gallery/Eldon Square please. I see Eldon is a shopping centre so will have options but what else is there?

No dietary restrictions, no budget restrictions really but won't be dressing up. Smart casual would be my absolute limit because I don't want to pack extra clothes but would rather somewhere casual. Just want to be satiated with happy tastebuds.

Thank you!

Khai Khai.

Lots of other nice places on the quayside too. Short walk down beautiful Grey Street to the river.

Also, go to the Grainger market for lunch. Have a mooch. See what takes your fancy. You won’t be disappointed.

We love MyDehli when we go to Newcastle.

Food and staff lovely and a chilled atmosphere.

Slightly worried a few people might be aghast at the Q but...what's the tipping culture in England outside of London? I haven't been to England before.

The Broad Chare - lovely pub near the Quayside with amazing food, it’s been in the Michelin guide a few times.

Re. tipping - I would say most (at least in my circles) do tip but you’re not going to be ostracised if you don’t. Service charge is sometimes already added so make sure you check the menu/your receipt.

There are so many options in Newcastle. Loads of steak places, chain restaurants etc.

What do you like / what's your budget? My current favourites are The Broad Charr, Nudo Malatang and Rio Steakhouse.

Fenwicks has some fab places to eat - including Cafe 21
The food hall in Fenwicks has a couple of wonderful restaurants

Other places I would recommend is Cafe 21 on Quayside, Broad Chare or Cook House in the Ouseburn.

I ate at Khai Khai a couple weeks ago it’s fab.

Ring a ding ding! The Broad Chare looks amazing!

Kaltur looks good too.

I see there are a few menus with scotch eggs when I've browsed places. Who knew Newcastle was so fond of them 😂feels unexpected

@Northumberlandlass ooh Cafe21 - Sachertorte - I internally squeed.

Or do I save Cafe21 for brekkie before I depart. I see they have bloody marys on the menu and if those are proper croissants listed then that could be a marvellous breakfast. Decisions decisions. If all Geordies are as helpful as all of you then I should have a smashing visit.

I guess it depends on where you’re staying in town - the brunch at Cafe 21 in Fenwicks would be fab.

I’ve never had a disappointing meal at The Broad Chare - we usually eat upstairs & order some bar snacks (scotch eggs, crispy pigs ears) to share as a starter.

Enjoy

Blackfriars is our favourite restaurant in the whole of Newcastle, Dobson and Parnel is owned by the same people, but there are lots of lovely places, many of which have been mentioned.
Harry's and the Muddler at the top of Grey Street are good, as is Horticulture on Market Lane. Some really good Italian food too. Primo and Unos are some of our favourites

DOROteeaitchwhy · 09/12/2024 18:31

Panni's is a very lovely Italian
Nudo in Chinatown for a different lunch experience (pick your own ramen)
Good suggestions above.
