Do I need to continue with this?

A few weeks ago I was going to bed and I noticed I wasn't able to see out of one eye. I had half my face in a pillow and one eye cover but the other eye, I wasn't able to see anything.

I made an appointment with Specsavers and all went well. I was just shortsighted in that eye. I was likely short sighted for a long time but I didn't notice it until that night and one eye was covered.

The eye doctor in Specsavers referred me to my GP too just in case there's any medical reasons with my eye.

I got a letter from the hospitals eye clinic because I was referred onto them from my GP.

I just got a letter to say that I am on the waiting list. I am thinking of I need to be on it at all. I am just short sighted in one eye which I wasn't aware off until a few weeks ago because I had one of my eyes cover - with half my face in the pillow.

I should have been wearing glasses for a long time but I wasn't.

Then last week or the week before I heard that Elton John had eye issues after an infection/covid. Now I am wondering if covid had done the same thing to my eyesight. I find it strange out I had covid in the summer time and now one eye is foggy when my good eye is covered. I just never noticed it before.

Anyways should I continue with the hospitals eye clinic waiting list or remove myself from it?

I would get it checked out.

Why would you remove yourself from it? Perhaps be guided by the professionals with years of training and experience. Sorry but no one in here can tell you that it’s fine to remove yourself from the referral list and it would be foolish to listen to anyone that did.

If your GP has referred you to the hospital eye clinic, you absolutely should go.

FWIW, I doubt you will have seen an eye doctor in Specsavers, you’ll have seen someone qualified to examine your eyes but they would not be a doctor.

Go to your hospital appointment.

The hospital have more specialised equipment than a local opticians. Go to your appointment x

You’ve been referred and that doesn’t happen for no reason. As a PP said, the hospital will have much better equipment with which to diagnose any issues with your eye(s). Wouldn’t you rather go and rule out anything?

If you mean everything was fuzzy in one eye, then maybe, yes, you just needed glasses (though how you can not "notice" that for years beats me). Did they prescribe you glasses? Are you wearing them?

If you mean everything was black in one eye - you were blind on that side - then of course you need to be seen by the hospital.

Anyway the fact it doesn't seem to have been referred as an emergency probably means it was nothing serious and they want to just check it out. But please, take care of your eyesight.

Always always get it checked out
