How will your Christmas table look like?

I am going to go get a new tablecloth and placemats this year, looking for inspiration… My current stuff is old and dated, can’t believe I ever thought it looked good. Thinking to go white and gold to match my monochrome kitchen and white and gold paper starts hanging in the bay window.

Honestly, once the table is full with serving dishes/plates/food- I wouldn't even notice that you had a table cloth, let alone the colour/pattern! You are overthinking OP. If you like it, go for it.

I am using up items I have already.

I will do green foliage in the middle of table with 4 tall candles sticks and candles in white.

gold console plates with holly napkin holders and I have name card I ordered last year on Etsy.

this is the first year I’m not getting new table decorations. Trying to be more sensible and mindful

Not decorating at all beyond the usual, I think it's enough to have lots of nice food and a few candles (which I'd do anyway for a dinner party).

There is a long window running alongside my dining table so I have a prelit garland on it

then on the table I have a new cream runner with pattern, charger plates and tall candle sticks (I bought chunky green candles today in flying tiger)

Every kind of joy and disorder, haha!
We celebrate a mix of Yule and Christmas, and have friends and family over for the main meal.
So there are drinking horns and mead vessels, holly and ivy crowns, candles and greenery, and more people than we likely have seats for (yay for a tv tray and huge chesterfield ) lots of old Christmas vinyl from the 60's and 70's,, likely not matching china, all kinds of foods and treats and drinks, very lid back fun

I can’t relate to those tables in good housekeeping magazines or whatever aspirational lifestyle photos are all over the place at Christmas recommending charger plates and table centrepieces.
My table seats around 20 people for Christmas dinner, there is a clean tablecloth, a runner and a row of mats down the middle for the serving dishes. Anything that is not actively being used for eating/drinking is not going on the table, there’s no space 😂

The Holly and lights plates you see in my photo. Black tablecloth. Red napkins in wineglasses with a scratch card each (tradition).

I have a red and green tablecloth with holly sprigs all over that I made a few years ago it’s pretty but fancy a change. I bought a lovely white tablecloth with a scalloped edge in a Charity shop for a quid. This will have silver and gold stars scattered on it, I have white, silver and gold Christmas Crackers I bought in the sale last year and I always pick greenery from the garden and put some chunky candles in the middle. I may make a table runner as the sewing machine will be out for curtain making in the next couple of days.

Where will you put all the food of you have foliage in the middle of the table?

I brought a table arch. I found I could decorate the actual table much because all the plates and serving china took up too much space. With a table arch I decorate with greenery, then hang either baubles or ‘floating’ tealights from it. I absolutely love it and get it out for most occasions now 😆

This sounds amazing!

A runner and charger plates but other than that just food. Not a millimetre of extra space. Even the wine bottles can’t stay on the table.

No idea how I came across this thread. It’s for last year. I wasn’t even hanging around the Christmas threads. Although I am now.

This! Theres never room for anything much on our table once all the food is on it!

Christmassy napkins and crackers are about It. I do have a nice arrangement of greenery/candle on the table, but it has to come off to make room for all the dishes.

Same as usual but with a tub of Quality Street in the middle.
