Anyone worked for Amazon flex?

I haven't posted in the work topic as it doesn't get much traffic.

Has anyone worked for Amazon flex? If so how have you found it?

I'm in need of some flexible work and in theory it sounds a good fit. I know my area well, I'm strong and active and I want something where I can pick up shifts to suit. I'd rather be out and about than sat on my backside!

I could just try it but I'll have to upgrade the car insurance and I'm not sure how realistic the pay is per block, so I'm interested to see how others have found it.

Don't know anything about Amazon Flex, but I think realistically very few people will have the insurance needed for parcel (or takeaway) delivery because it's likely to be disproportionately expensive when earning an insecure income.

I have read stories about the police impounding vehicles after accidents or when they've been stopped on the way to a delivery because they don't have the correct insurance and will be on basic SDP.

I did it briefly as a sideline to my main job. I didn't find it worth the hassle...if you got a route closer to the depot it was fine. If you got a route then other side of the county a 3hr shift quickly turns into a 5+ hour one (travel to and from the route isn't counted in your hours and is unpaid).

Jeff didn't get to be a billionaire by treating his workforce well and paying them fairly now did he!

Fair point - I guess you'd have to take that into account when picking up shifts.

I don't need it to pay the bills, I could just do with something I can pick up when my other job goes quiet.

If anyone has any other ideas please let me know!

When I did it you had no choice on where your route was - the shifts were just listed in time lengths (the shift lengths are purely worked out due to number of drop offs, not where they are located from the depot)
So before you got to the depot you had no idea if you'd be given a route 10 minutes away the depot or if you'd be given one an hour+ away (as you needed to drive to the other side of the county before starting the route). It was pure potluck and you got no choice. If I'd known how far I could be sent I wouldn't have signed up for it.
It may have changed, I don't know - but don't go into it thinking you can pick and choose your routes.

I did one in the city near the depot, fairly easy. I did another in a town and hour+ away from the depot, much more time consuming. I did another one in the countryside which took forever as none of the houses were near each other. I went to so many little villages that day. You get paid a flat rate - if it takes longer to deliver than your shift or you have to do a 2hr round trip to get to and from the route, tough.

What about working in the actual warehouse? I believe they have good rates of pay

Nothing going near me sadly.
