How can I get the findings of an inquest?

This is not historical. It's a RTA that happened in August this year. Is it possible and how? It took place in north Yorkshire. Thanks.

I don’t think you can unless you are the deceased next of kin (if you are, someone from the coroner’s office should have been in touch), but it might be different in different areas. I wondered if the outcome of DH’s inquest would be publicly available online but it wasn’t. But, I think I wondered that possibly because it does happen in some places. Maybe look for the website of the local coroner. The other thing is that maybe the inquest has not yet happened. I waited over 6 months for a very simple inquest with very little evidence involved but I am aware of people waiting much longer.

Local press often report on inquests. Have you tried searching local news sites?

It probably hasn't taken place yet.
The death certificate will have the cause(s) of death.
The certificate can be purchased from the register office if you have sufficient information about the deceased.

Probably hasn't even happened yet if it was in August, it can take months for collision investigators to complete their findings.

Google the name of the deceased + inquest, you may get local news reports if it has been opened and adjourned. If you don't know the name of the deceased then try searching road accident + location + date etc

My niece died July 2023 and the inquest hasn't happened yet. My sisters inquest was reported in the newspaper but this was in 1981. She was only 18 and killed in a car crash. Her inquest was quite soon after her death. These days since Covid nothing seems to happen quickly.

It usually takes at least 6 months. I was involved in a RTA where the driver at fault died, the police notified me of the inquest in case I wanted to attend (even though the coroner did not request me there).

I doubt the inquest has happened yet! My dbro died in an accident in august (not Yorkshire) and his inquest is scheduled for next year.

I’m sorry I don’t know how you find verdicts for inquests, I would google the details, it might tell you when it’s scheduled as a first step.
