From January I will be working Tues - Fri only (yay 😁). Looking forward to every weekend being a long weekend but want to make the most of the extra day.

What do you do on your 'extra' day off?

School run, playgroup, laundry, housework, sometimes the food shop or other errands.

Bug once both kids are at school I'm going to spend some time on housework and errands and the rest on sewing or seeing a friend for lunch, I can't wait!

My kids are older now so no school runs to worry about on my Friday off. I do an exercise class or play tennis in the morning. Might have coffee or lunch with a friend. Fit in any hair appointments etc. Do a bit of life admin. I do need to dip into work emails or the odd meeting but I'm not on Teams. I do compressed though.

I work 3 or sometimes 4 days

Visit elderly parents
School drop and collect
Grocery shopping
Gardening (except in winter)!
Online shopping - for myself, or buy birthday and Christmas gifts
Life admin: pay bills, make appointments etc
Go and get hair and eyebrows done
Walks
Sit around drinking coffee and browse online
Clean the house
Do laundry
Take the car to the car wash
Meet a friend for a coffee (hardly ever happens)
Sometimes batch cook, but not as often since we got an air fryer

Housework, shopping, gym, often meet friends for a walk or lunch

Hi all, thanks so much for your responses - it's good to see what people do so I can have some sort of plan. I really don't want to just fall into being lazy and pottering around the house without making the most of having an entire additional day!

For context, DH and I are in our mid-50s, no children (by choice). I lost my darling dad a couple of years ago so spending time with mum is definitely part of the plan although I see her a couple of times a week already so I that won't be every week.

I work largely from home so tend to get bits done during lunchtime, throwing on a wash, bit of ironing etc so no great need to spend much time on the house, other than big jobs like a big wardrobe clear-out, cleaning out the shed etc which I quite enjoy!

Other than the above I'm thinking;

Long walk in the morning (useful in Winter when I hate walking in the dark) followed by coffee and a read of the paper in a coffee shop
Exercise class
Meet a friend (I have a good friend nearby who took early retirement)
Join the local library and see if there are any 'events' on
Gardening (once Winter is over)
Catch up on reading
Booking a weekend away in early January

Really looking forward to it now 😃
