Would you run errands in 50mph gusts and moderate rain?

Not using trains or buses, just driving around town locally.

We are staying in even though we'd like to go out. Several roads near us are being blocked by falling trees and the people clearing the debris don't need another car adding to the congestion and general mayhem.

I do have to walk into town in an hour or so. I'm one of the bell ringers for a wedding and they are already short of ringers for the occasion. I feel so sorry for the bride and groom. I hope their guests can make it safely.

In a yellow zone and continuing as normal inc. a trail run and then going out for dinner this evening. Storms are a regular occurrence across the winter and this is the third this year. Life does not need to grind to halt every time the weather is less than ideal

50mph yes, it's 80mph here so no.

Sprogonthetyne · 07/12/2024 12:18

If they needed doing (eg. Go to shop for that days food), but if I could leave it I would. That's more because I don't like being cold and wet then me thinking it would be dangerous.

Sure if I needed to. If I had scheduled a few things I'd just get on with it. If I can put it off I might though. Dog gets short changed on the walk though - she hates the rain!

AmyW9 · 07/12/2024 12:40

Yep. Just been to the park with my toddler and this afternoon we're doing a dump run. Life goes on, just take extra care.

Cynic17 · 07/12/2024 12:49

Yes, of course - it's not that big a deal. Some people have no choice but to go to work, and they're absolutely fine.

MrsAvocet · 07/12/2024 13:07

I'm sure you'll be fine OP. I mean it's not a day I'd go sailing or walking up mountains but like many others have said, winds gusting 50 mph are a regular occurrence where I live and if we all stayed in every time nothing would ever get done. Just make sure you're wearing suitable clothing and pick your route sensibly and you'll be fine.

Thanks everyone for the feedback, we did end up going out. DH didn’t want to so I showed him this thread which worked a charm 😁 It was fine just very cold with the wind and rain. I’m glad we went.

Well I have been doing that in 47 to 49 mph gusts, so probably yes. It doesn't feel that bad in a town. If my errands were at the top of a cliff I would probably leave it until tomorrow

BurntBroccoli · 07/12/2024 16:58

Absolutely not! Have you seen the amount of trees that have come down across roads?
