Tacky Christmas gardens ..

There are five terrace houses on my side of the road and three big ones opposite . We have small tiny front gardens but they are all planted up, look cared for. The one on the far end has currently just got gravel as the garden is being redone. It's bare.

The house first on the corner is a big family and they always do masses of LED mis matched multicoloured lights at Christmas. Next door to them have similar tastes but now their kids are gone it's toned down a smidge . Neither look great but it's diluted by the pretty decorations everyone one else does on our road and the opposite ones. It's all tiny white twinkly lights in the trees and nicely decorated/ lit porches.

Got home tonight to find my other next door neighbours have installed a giant inflatable snowman out front with nets of bright white lights flashing on and off. The plastic monstrosity takes the entire patch. So that's three on my row that look really brash, with me in the middle.

I don't need any lights now because both sides have lit up mine. But I'm fucked off because my row currently looks like a Channel 4 US Christmas film circa 2005. Whatever I put up is going to look unnoticed between frosty on one side and dystopian Blackpool on the other.

I love a bit of tacky at Christmas.
No other times though!

I have a light up acrylic gnome outside my front door, I LOVE it.
We live in a 5 bed house on a gated estate.. just saying!

A new build? Definitely not middle class or classy.

@BrimFire don't put up any decorations until Christmas Eve then leave them up until Candlemas. All the tat will be taken down by early January and your tasteful decorations will be allowed to shine until February.

Wouldn't bother me at all. It gives some people pleasure.

Where my brother lives there used to be a few houses in like a cul de sac and they always decorated their houses and front gardens for charity. I used to love going down there and seeing all the lights. Then inevitably newcomers moved in and complained about the amount of cars that came around to look at the lights....(well look at the lights)..... So that all stopped. I mean people were pretty good at getting out the car, taking pics, donating and then moving on.

Just as well the newcomers did not live next to church bells or a farm....
