Does anyone here have a VW e-Up electric car?

I've been researching which electric cars would suit me from the point of view of things like their shape, having 5 doors, and being less than 4m long because I cannot park anything longer than that. Historically (with petrol cars) I tend to buy used cars that are 3-5 years old and will then run them for c10 years before replacing them, my current car is a hybrid and is 12yo now and I am expecting to need to replace it soon, and I am interested in going fully electric.

There are a good number of 3-5yo VW e-Up cars that seem to meet my needs but I would like to know more about what it's like to drive one of these, especially if you have owned one from new have you noticed a significant change in performance over the years? I'm wary about buying a used electric car if I am likely to be buying into a life of technical problems because of deterioriation. Please tell me more about your experiences of electric cars that are a few years old!

No ue at all, I'm afraid, but the name makes me laugh a lot. I bet it goes down a storm in Yorkshire.

DD’s driving instructor had an electric Up! and gave it up (no pun intended) after 3 weeks as the battery range was so bad. Only 70 miles in cold weather! When it comes to electric cars Toyota is the best and most advanced option.

Thanks @BeatriceAndLottie - useful to know! I normally love Toyotas but they don't seem to do a plug-in electric vehicle that's small enough - they are all at least 4.5metres which is the best part of a metre longer than an e-Up. But I do need to be able to do a 100 mile journey reliably. Hmm.

I don't have an e-up but my friend does and she curses the battery on it.

I have an e-Corsa and I really like it. Marginally over the 4m length (4.06) but I find it very easy to park and manoeuvre even in car parks with very narrow aisles.

Ooh thanks @LoquaciousPineapple I learned to drive on a Corsa so I might be ok with that. Will check it out.

I have an E-up and am from Yorkshire 🤣. I live it. We got it knowing the battery was small and we’d have limited range. We live rurally and it’s our running around car, all the school runs and 15/20min hops running the kids placing and picking things up etc.

For our purpose it’s brilliant. Nippy, easy to park in a multi storey, easy to manoeuvre, space for a shop in the boot.

I wouldn’t have it as my only car if I needed to do longer journeys. We have a bigger petrol car for that purpose, but for the day to day running about I think she’s brilliant.

Just to add:

I’ve had her 2.5 years and not noticed any massive change in battery so far. In winter when it’s cold we get 40-50miles less range than once we’re back consistently above 12 degrees. But it’s been consistent the whole time.

if you have to do a 100mile journey regularly I would say no if that’s one way (so 200 round trip). But I’d even be wary doing 100 mile round trip in winter.

I have a VW id3, and would highly recommend. It's only just over 4m long. It's super-easy to park though as it has a very short bonnet, and really good cameras for reversing (and sensors at the front). It gets a decent range - c230 miles on a full charge in summer, probably around 190 in winter. I bought it as an approved used car, so it gets a 3 year warranty (from the dealer).
