Someone has been filling my bins (all of them) with bags of dog shit, they are putting it in little clear bags with paw prints on them but they are not tying them so it's going everywhere in my bins. To say they smell is an understatment and I noticed maggots everywhere.

I didn't mind too much to start off with but after going out the other day and getting it all over my hands because it had been smeared on the handles of my bin is the last straw for me.

I set up a camera and have managed to get the guy doing it, he lives down the street.

The more I think about it the more it's pissing me off because he has to walk past his own bins, down his driveway, across the road, open my gate, walk down my driveway then open my bin shed to use my bins, Seems he's going to a bit of effort to do it twice a day when he could easily just put them in his own!

Stuff like this wouldn't usually bother me, but It has really started to smell (bins are in a bin shed right next to my front door) and there were maggots all through summer. i don't have a dog so shouldn't really have to be dealing with this. People coming to my flat are telling me they can smell it when they are knocking on my door, and a few people have mentioned the maggots.

Last night I took all my bins and put them all in my back garden, To get in there you have to go through a locked side gate. Went out this morning and theres more so he's still doing it only now he's entering my back garden to do it.

I put a note on my bin lid to say I have him on camera and to please stop doing it because it smells and if it happened again I would be bagging it all up and leaving it on his doorstep.. He then did it again.

Should I leave them on his doorstep? or is there a better way to stop this?

i don't live in the best area and when i got bin locks my bins then got stolen (I suppose people thought it they can no longer use my bins then neither could I!) and I can't afford to keep buying new bins.

@blydewa this is actually classed as flytipping!!! he is committing an offence. inform the environmental health and the cleansing department. apart from anything else, I dont think people are meant to use domestic bins for dog poo!!

Fly tipping is when rubbish is dumped on public land. The Council won't count this as fly tipping as it's private property.

I would report to the police as anti social behaviour and harassment.

bigkidatheart · 02/12/2024 09:59

He is coming onto your locked private property to do this, I would contact the police.

Or collect all the shitty bags up and dump them on his front door step.

Have you confronted him about it, does he have a problem with you? Or is he an older gentleman that could possibly have dementia or alzheimers or a medical condition as to why he is doing this?

Dotto · 02/12/2024 10:12

Police. It's harassment.

SilverChampagne · 02/12/2024 10:16

You haven’t explained how he gets through a locked gate, op?

Wegovypictures · 02/12/2024 10:23

Put a lock on your bin shed, not your bins? #

If it's smeared on your bin handles then this sounds like he's got a grudge, so I'd be careful

TiramisuThief · 02/12/2024 10:34

I would go to the police.

It's harassment.

EdgeofSeventy · 02/12/2024 10:38

Save a few. Get some newspaper.
Wrap shit in paper.
Make sure he's in.
Put newspaper package on the doorstep and set fire to it and ring the door bell.
Watch from a distance while he stamps on warm shit.
OR report him to the police for coming over your locked gate.
Is this the first issue with this guy?

Yalta · 02/12/2024 10:41

Post the opened bags of dog shit through his letterbox

Obviously don't do this if you are an adult and want the police to take you seriously.

MrMucker · 02/12/2024 10:42

I'd consider him very creepy. He's chosen your bins over someone else's.
You've told him to stop and he' s still doing it, which lands it squarely in the field of harassment.
You can get the police onto it immediately. Harassment. In particular because you've asked him to stop. That is bullying defined.
The thing I'd be wary of is he has singled you out for his own weird reasons, maybe he finds you attractive, maybe he resents what you have, maybe you've had past interactions leading to some grudge. If he stops the dog shit business it wont stop his need to target you, and you should express that concern to the police. He might already have form for this sort of thing, and if anything else happens from him they might have a case.

Make sure you get a report number for any police discussion and the name of the officer/s you speak to, in case you need to follow up. He is creepy, underhand, and disgusting.

Yalta · 02/12/2024 10:43

Or smear the bin lid handle with an irritant or more dog shit and only use rubber gloves when you go out to use the bin

Yalta · 02/12/2024 10:44

HothouseFlower · 02/12/2024 10:41

Obviously don't do this if you are an adult and want the police to take you seriously.

Why not? You are after all just returning his property to him

marshmallowbum · 02/12/2024 10:47

NOTANUM · 02/12/2024 09:19

Seriously if he’s entering your locked garden to do this I would be raising a report of anti social behaviour with 101 or online. It’s just not on and he knows it!

This

averylongtimeago · 02/12/2024 10:56

Ok, you know who it is, it's not just a random dog walker. They are going into your backyard- just call the police.

ThereIsALifeOutThere · 02/12/2024 11:11

@blydewa have you had any dealings with him before?

I agree, its harassment and the fact he has no issue going into your property shows that.
Did the camera show him going into your backyard too?

Ginnnny · 02/12/2024 11:22

Get all that shit right on his doorstep. What a cheeky fucker! Do you know him to speak to at all or have you ever had any kind of run in, or know why he would be using your bins specifically? You could try asking your council for new bins, and give him the shitty ones too.

steppemum · 02/12/2024 12:25

Please call the non emergency police number.
This behaviour is really odd and quite intimidating.
If you had said someone dropped it in your bin at the end of your drive etc, then that is annoying but hard to stop, but this is really personal.

Even before you put the bin in your back garden it was pretty odd to have to come up your drive to dump it, having walked past his own bins.
But now he is coming in to your back garden that is pretty aggressive.

I would talk to the police. I would imagine that they would consider this harrassment. You have evidence that it is him, they will probably send someone round to have a word
