how can a kid listen to music without a phone?

There is a movement to get kids off devices. Smartphone free childhood.
I do not want my primary aged children to have devices.
However, I do want them to listen to music of their choice. They would love a music player on their room, and also wireless headphones if possible.
Without a phone or tablet, or Alexa, are there any workable options? They have CD players at the moment, but can't connect headphones to them.
Sorry if I sound clueless.

Actually that one doesn't connect to speakers sorry.

We have a Mighty but you then do need to let your kids have access to a phone so they can download playlists from Spotify. It's not a beautiful system either - logs itself out regularly, quite a big faff to set back up.

Sounds like a stupid question, but those of you whose kids listen to mp3s, how do they get hold of the mp3s in the first place?

Type MP3 player into Amazon...
Or Ipod depending on which one you want.

Are you talking about the music itself? If so, download it or rip it, same as people have been doing for decades.

There are plenty of MP3 players on the market.

There’s a huge untapped market here.
not just for children but tangible music products generally. I’d still love to buy music in a permanent format and play it without needing the internet. Kids have cd players and love cds but there isn’t much choose any more. I really don’t think this is dead tech …

I know this is a zombie, but it’s exactly the same problem I’m having this year.
anyone got a good solution for kids having access to lots of music without a phone or Alexa type device?

Between my DCs they have two Google speakers, a Yoto and a Tonie, and a CD player.

But why not an Alexa? One of the basic ones without a screen. There’s very little they can do with that.

Another vote on this zombie thread for a Yoto player

I haven’t used a Yoto. Can you listen to any
music on it? If making your own cards would you download MP3s?

I have just looked at the cost of MP3s and they seem the same as they were when they were more wildly used, £5-10 per album so if someone in the family already uses a streaming service it might be cheaper to find a way for them to stream the music.

We put the audio files we have (e.g. podcasts, library audio books) on the cards. Theoretically we then swap the library books out after the three week loan.
