My budget is under £50 per child (not my DC and have none that age, which is why I’m stuck for ideas). Inspiration desperately needed . TIA

10 year old wants monster high dolls. To be fair a whole load of art stuff too (posca pens etc)

6 year old wants turtles, transformers, any of your standard plastic monstrosities.

In your shoes I would go for a Lego set each.

‘Standard plastic monstrosities’ totally covers the trawl through Amazon and argos I’ve been having all afternoon. Have been looking at lego but no idea what they’re into or have but I’ll try find out. So much choice. I’m bogged down by looking.

6 year old: fighter plane drone, sea monkeys, tie die kit (is that arty?), football kit

6yo DS desperately wants a bopit and Dobble. (Both are coming courtesy of Vinted!)

WildGeece · 01/12/2024 19:29

Lego! Pick a set that isn't branded (e.g. not Ninjago, not Minecraft), like the Lego City ones.

xyz111 · 01/12/2024 19:37

Lego is always a good bet. For £50 you could get a big set.

Bringithere · 01/12/2024 19:39

Thank you I’ve not heard of boppit or dobble . Tie dye kit also not something I’d thought of. This is all so helpful thanks.

Can you ask the parents what they’re into?

NuffSaidSam · 01/12/2024 19:44

I'd go for Lego (if they're into it, check first).

Or a selection of board/card games.

Merrow · 01/12/2024 19:44

6 year old: Lego, laser guns, science kits, books
10 year old: harry potter things, Lego, books, jewellery, soft toys

BertieBotts · 01/12/2024 19:58

6yo: Roller skates, wooden train track stuff, Hot wheels play sets, lego, Gravitrax (this is a little tricky for him so might be better for the older one). Playdoh sets, Kinetic sand. Anything with slime (but I would hate you if you bought my child £50 worth of slime FWIW Grin)

He was also amazed by things like popcorn/candyfloss/waffle maker, because it hadn't occurred to him that these were such a thing someone might be able to actually own.

Up to £50 is a large budget - that is around main present sort of territory for us. So it would be worth asking the parents what they are into. IME, up to £25 and you can get a solid, good choice that most children will like, but if you have that bit extra then you have the chance of getting something absolutely spot on.

Another suggestion if it would work for you - an aunt of mine used to take us shopping individually for our own gift and I remember finding this SO special as a child.

Bringithere · 01/12/2024 20:26

Thank you so much everyone. £50 was absolute max but much happier with something around £20. I’m getting loads of ideas of things I’ve not heard /thought of. I’m sure I’m going to crack this finally

6yo pokemon minifigures, giant sleeping pokemon plush, chapter books, Beano subscription (can get 10 weeks for £10), Lego city sets, 100-200 piece jigsaws

10yo athleisure branded clothes (e.g. Nike, Adidas which are expensive but not crazy prices) smartwatch, wireless headphones, Origami set, infinity cube puzzle, vinyl sticker packs, framed posters for bedroom.
