TW ugly pic attached —- Anyone ever had a fungal skin infection

I’ve been diagnosed with a fungal skin condition. Ive had it for 3 years but it’s only been diagnosed after the doctor mistaking it for eczema. They have given me multiple creams to try and nothing works.

I wake up every day wanting to rip my skin off my hands/feet and scalp. Doctors won’t refer me to dermatology so I keep going back and being told there is nothing the doctor can do.

Has anyone healed this?? I cannot cope anymore with the rash, pain and ripping me skin apart. Plus it’s looks very ugly.

What treatment has the GP prescribed?
Did they do any scrapings ?
Might be worth a second opinion from a podiatrist.

I treated and cured a fungal nail infection successfully by doing the following:
I bought baby bottle sterilizing tablets from chemist. Made up a fresh solution and soaked my foot in it at least twice every day for at least 5 minutes. Dry gently with clean flannel which then gets put in a hot wash.
Apply anti fungal cream to clean dry foot and put on clean cotton sock.
Don't wear anything else on feet in the house.
Shake anti fungal powder or spray inside your shoes daily.
Wash socks on hot.

Go and see a dermotologist privately OP. I had to for rosacea earlier this year, because the GP simply could not diagnose it. IME GPs are terrible at diagnosing skin conditions. I live in the SE and my appointment was £120 and it was worth every penny to know what was ailing me and how to make it better!

Insist on a dermatology referral. They should do scrapings to make sure it’s going to respond to treatment.

I had something similar for about 15 years and I was allergic to my shoes and not just one pair … have you made sure you ventilate them as much as possible, sterilise and dry them daily and wash everything on hot washes and only use cotton socks.

Look up palmoplanter psoriasis.
Is it on your palms as well?
Same thing happened to me.
GP's were useless but as soon as I saw a private Derm they diagnosed straight away

Me too! Exactly the same, gp missed it.

I had a fungal infection on my face (looked great!) and used daktacort, and daktarin, which were available over the counter. It took weeks, if not months, to go.

^^ This.

That's deffo what it looks like. I have it too and had years of misdiagnosis (including fungal which it isn't) until I went privately to a consultant dermatologist.

I had what I thought was a fungal infection on my foot and treated it for weeks with creams etc and it got worse and worse.
After much googling on Mumsnet, I found it was pompholyx eczema and it cleared rapidly with petroleum jelly.
If you are having no joy with anti fungals, could it be this? I don't know what treatment you used before the antifungals. It looks like it may have had small vesicles like pompholyx eczema?

It was a surprise to me as I'd never had any type of eczema before at about 50 years old

It may be worth a short trial as current treatment is not helping?

Hi all thanks for your input. I’ve no idea where to begin. I was given steroid creams for this but nothing further since I last seen the doctor.

I don’t think steroid creams are anti-fungal? I use goats milk soap and no other chemicals on my skin.

Someone mentioned seeing a dermatologist, my local clinic does appointments for £170. I think I’ll book in and final get answers. It’s a lot of money for me but it’s better than dragging this out further!

Definitely go down the private Derm route.
I was given all the creams/steroids under the sun. Nothing worked.
If it is palmaplanter psoriasis it's being caused by your immune system.
I was given Methotrexate to take once a week.
Within 2 weeks it was well on its way to going. By four weeks it was gone.
I stopped taking the medication after 6 months.
That was 10 years ago and it hasn't returned.
Sometimes your immune system gets a little out of kilter and starts attacking itself, for a variety of reasons.
The medication sets it back on an even keel again.
Good luck at the Derm. Keep us posted x
