Cafetiere recommendations

Evening!

My Husband has asked for a cafetiere for Christmas. He never usually wants anything so I'd love to get him a really nice one, good quality with longevity. We have quite a few Le Creuset items so that was my go to but the recent reviews are dreadful. Happy to spend up to £200.

Also if anyone has any amazing coffee that they'd recommend I'd be very appreciative 😊

I have a Stanley Stay Hot. Not cheap but it is huge and keeps coffee hot (well, warm drinkable temp) for 4 hours.

We have a Bodum one and a few other random ones. Honestly, unless it’s a specific style you are after, a cafetière is a cafetière. Ideally you want something that can be taken apart to be cleaned, like the Bodum ones. I wouldn’t spend £200 on one though!

If you really do want something a bit more lux, I’d buy a coffee siphon. The best coffee I’ve ever had.

If you are after coffee, I love Kona and Jamaican Blue Mountain. Where you’d source them, I don’t know. We used to get ours from a local roaster, so you might ask around to see what’s near you. I found the tasting notes with Pact to be quite good, so if he knows what he likes, it should be easy to find a few varieties that would be a good fit.

A stainless steel double walled one but probably £30 unless you go for some designer one eg Alessi. Steel wont break and the double wall keeps the heat in. Judge do single wall steel ones. Coffee is subjective. I know what I like and get it from 1 place. But obv others won't like mine. My partner prefers decaff (Cafe Direct) and made weaker. Plenty available if you Google steel double walled french press. £50 max

I have the Le Crueset one and it’s very good. The trick is to heat it with hot water first. The market leader is Bodum and they do excellent cafetières, or if you’re looking for a single cup device I can recommend the Aeropress. I did wonder what all the fuss was at first but it really does make a great coffee.

Ooh following with interest!

@Pedallleur beat me to it! Love my steel double walled one so much I have given the glass ones away.
Virtually indestructible apart some have a plastic button on the top plunger which can break so that's worth looking at

If waving money around Grunwerg seem reassuringly expensive. 3 cup is good to fill a mug. I prefer 4 cup. And down the rabbit hole I go!!

Coffee wise, I would go for

Looks ok the David Mellor but is it double walled? Also they all use the same type of filter press.

I could spend a fortune in DM, so many lovely things.

@Newtrix what size would he want? Would you both be enjoying a coffee ? You asked about coffee do you have anywhere local that sells independent coffee beans/ground I love trying random ones . Or a favourite coffee shop, you could see if you could buy the same as they use.

Would he appreciate a personal sized cafetiere and a grinder of some sort?
My partner doesn't drink coffee, so my cafetiere doesn't need to be share size .
