Cadbury Original Hot Chocolate - has it gone AWOL??

manoeuvred · 30/11/2024 19:02

We usually buy Cadbury 'Original' Hot Chocolate, which is made with hot milk, rather than the 'Instant' variety made with hot water. However, I looked for it at Tesco when doing the online shopping and it wasn't on the list - I don't mean "out of stock", but simply vanished. I went round to our local mini supermarkets and couldn't find it there either. Is something sinister going on? 🧐

I tried to put some on my online order from Sainsbury yesterday and it wasn't available.

BenditlikeBridget · 01/12/2024 10:03

I bought some a week or two back no problem. I actually prefer the Costa one though I think. Even better with oat milk, it goes all malty…

Cadburys hot chocolate to mix with hot milk has .been re-called because of inadequate texture that's what I have read after a little research

oakleaffy · 03/12/2024 11:05

@manoeuvred It’s disappeared from everywhere.

I guarantee they are making the tub size smaller.

this happened with coffee mate a few years ago

when it reappeared it was far smaller in size.DO NOT buy Cadbury’s revolting instant hot chocolate
It’s foul.
Reduced fat cocoa and nasty cardboard taste.

Is that true?
”Inadequate texture?” It was fine and then bam! Gone .

Iloveeverycat · 03/12/2024 11:08

They sell it in our sainsburys local

Yep, sad but true ... but at least it means we have an explanation, and hopefully it will be temporary 🤞

I bet when it’s back the tubs will be smaller and more expensive- despite recall.

infuriating as nothing else tastes the same.

Could be weeks before we see it again

Have been trying others- but none come close.

green and blacks cocoa isn’t the same ( and £££)

Maybe not currently?- I’ve been everywhere looking for it.
Even expensive Independents.

It disappeared a couple of weeks ago suddenly from everywhere.

queenofthewild · 03/12/2024 11:16

My mum found 2 dusty tins lurking in her newsagents after searching everywhere for weeks. It's a rare commodity.

A pp recommended Costa Hot Choc and I saw that it is now discounted in Tesco, so they may be hoping to cash in on the back of the Cadbury booboo.

Yep ... worth popping in a few of the shabbier convenience stores in the hope that they didn't get the memo. 🙃

Presumably it's just a recent batch that has the consistency issue.

ItsMintUpNorth · 03/12/2024 12:10

I think it must be a pretty recent batch as I bought some not long ago and no issues with it as far as I can tell!

manoeuvred · 30/11/2024 19:24

We have a Tesco Metro, a Little Waitrose, and a Sainsbury's Local on our high street and none of them have it. 😢

Same- tried loads of shops and none- just at the wrong time for Hot choc and marshmallow season!

Confirmed to be a recall!!! https://fosters.ky/cadbury-recall/

Phew!!

Aquarius1234 · 03/12/2024 16:32

Omg yes I can't believe its out of stock. Well I never, Its my staple.

MabelsBeats · 03/12/2024 16:36

luna5 · 30/11/2024 20:37

I was told by my local shop that it was recalled due to consistency issues (it wasn’t mixing properly). I haven’t been able to get in in the bigger supermarkets either!

Oh really, how interesting. I bought some a few months back, just opened it the other week and I thought straight away that they had changed the ingredients. It didn’t seem the same and I genuinely thought it might be mouldy - it was odd! So perhaps I had a not good batch. Hope they get this sorted soon, it’s a winter staple for me!

Poggishairtufts · 03/12/2024 16:52

I think the cocoa bean crop this year has been poor which is pushing up the price of chocolate.

I got some in a Cadbury's outlet a couple of months ago, do you have one close by? I'd post you a tub if I was close to my outlet but it's a bit of a schlep, sorry.

AsilRenrag · 04/12/2024 00:27

AsilRenrag · 05/12/2024 00:05

steakpieandchips · 05/12/2024 00:07

I'm Sure I saw something on the news a while back about there being an issue getting cocoa. Might be connected
