What does your 13-16 year old boy do at home when they’re not on a screen. Mine seems to move from phone to PlayStation to tv but can’t find anything to do when I suggest he have time away from a screen! Any suggestions

My 14 year-old likes lego and playing cards. Recently his Grammy has taught him to play cribbage.
Books on things he's interested in?
Teach him to cook, my son likes to cook and at least once a week will cook dinner for the family. He's learning to cook from scratch.

At that age, he was out and about a fair bit with Scouts then Explorers, (including all the activities / camps / fundraisers / etc) and of course had school and homework, so there weren't that many hours to fill, so I didn't mind him being on a screen.

Mostly homework and screens unfortunately.
When we had a discussion about reducing phone and gaming time, he started watching more tv which I didn't mind do much.
He also started hanging out with us more, messing around with siblings and we got into some good tv shows.
That habit stayed and now as a 6th former,we're watching From together (which is really good so far)
He also plays football and volunteers. He's also looking for a job.

Reads, plays boardgames, listens to audiobooks, plays warhammer talks about warhammer reads about warhammer....
goes for walks, takes photos (screen I suppose), does pull ups, goes climbing, sleeps a lot!

Reads
Plays table tennis with whoever he can rope in
Kicks a ball around with his DB and dad

Thats about it. He does a lot of sport and has a lot of homework.
Goes to cinema with friends or plays table tennis at friend's house.

He will play the occasional board game with us and LOVES playing card games (whist, oh heck, cheat) especially when GPs are here.

Thanks all. Looks like I need to encourage more card games as he refuses to read

D&D
Read - I know your son doesn't like reading but it doesn't have to be fiction books, could be one of the DK collection, cooking books, bike maintenance, amazing facts abut the world, crazy records, ... and newspaper in paper version. Since forever I had them read articles to me whilst I cook or fold laundry.
Board games
Surfing (we are in Sydney)

My argument however would be to become active on screens and not a passive user. Maybe he can create a YouTube channel about his city, and then edit the videos and upload them. Or invite him to explore how ChatGPT can help him. create a website or even an app for parents who nag about screen usage. With interviews, papers and facts supporting screen use.
Screens are an imagination killer. He can be on screen in a creative way. And there is money to make.
