If I'm replacing a fully integrated dishwasher, is it just simpler & safer to get one that's exactly the same size to avoid any problems fitting even though energy rating is D?

My 20 year old Bosch dishwasher is not performing as well as it should.
We've been told it's not viable to repair.
I told Bosch, my existing model number and asked them to tell me the model which would match in size with the old one and they told me the model (SBH4HVX00G).
Unfortunately it is D rated.
I want to stick with Bosch because I've never had any real problems with them and most of my appliances are from Bosch for dishwashers.

Does the energy rating matter that much?
An A rated machine will save a couple of hundred over 15 years but they cost several hundred more.
I'm also not sure if my existing kitchen unit door cupboard that attaches to the dishwasher would would fit a smaller Bosch model.
Any advice?

The rating wouldn't bother me if the size was correct.

wooly1962 · 29/11/2024 11:23

If you know the measurements of existing one just search for one that will fit into the space eg AO. May be able to find one with better rating from a different manufacturer.

Thanks but I don't want any other manufacturer.

Is the new one smaller?

Enko · 29/11/2024 11:32

If you only want Bosh then I would just get the D rated one.

Personally I would look at other brands and get a better rated one.

I am not brand loyal.

It's the same size apart from being half a cm taller but I'm happy the space will allow that.

I bought a new integrated Bosch a few weeks ago. I was told integrated dishwashers are all
designed to fit standard size cupboard space (excluding slimline) so wouldn’t worry about size. I wouldn’t worry about energy rating too much - the rating are based on ideal scenario, using long eco cycles rather than, for example, quick wash.

I would only switch from Bosch to go to a brand like Miele which will cost a lot more.

Integrated machines are all designed to fit the same space.
You shouldn't have any issues with sizing on any Bosch model - or any other brand.

Just get yourself the exact same size and save yourself the hassle. We got one a few millimetres wrong on our washing machine and it’s been shite

Can you ask a local joiner to install it?

If your kitchen is old then the sizing might be different to 'standard' sizes nowadays. We had this problem a few years back with an integrated fridge freezer.

If you're stuck on that one brand then you'll have to go with it if that's the only one they do in that size. However, I don't think you should be so stuck. A lot of products come out of exact same factory just with different badge on! If you know the exact size of your current dishwasher then maybe have a look at other brands that offer that size. You might be surprised. We had to replace our dishwasher a couple of years ago and I just went with a mid range one (it's actually a Belling) and it has been fantastic.

ItsYourMoneyRalf · 29/11/2024 12:09

all the integrated bosch models (slimline excepting) will fit into the same space.

WhatsitWiggle · 29/11/2024 12:12

I didn't bother looking at rating when mine went and just got pretty much the exact same model (Neff) from when the kitchen had been fitted 15 years earlier.

AllHisCaterpillarFriends · 29/11/2024 12:17

I've not worked it out on a dishwasher, but on a washing machine I worked out the cost saved verses the extra cost of the A rated machine and I would need to keep it for 11.5 years to make up the extra cost.

I'd imagine the savings on a dishwasher are similar.

Although if you can find someone to fix your machine I would recommend that. New ones are crap.

My kitchen was fitted at the same time as the dishwasher, ie 20 years ago.

Those ratings only mean so much anyway as it also depends on the size and capacity of your machine. For example an A-rated machine may not always be better. I’d just get the one you want and not worry about the rating.

The SBH is a higher height model if your old one is not you need to go for one where the pre fix is SGV

Thanks. The model I mentioned, (SBH4HVX00G) is only half a cm taller than the existing model and should fit in the existing space.

I was in a similar position when my 15 year old Bosch tripped all the electrics, even when it was off, so decided to buy a new one instead. First I bought a Which best buy Hisense, which would have been fine if I wanted cold wet dirty dishes at the end of cycle, sent it back.

So back to Bosch. Main thing that I couldn't believe when it came is that it didn't have Aqua stop as standard. And much worse, unless you don't use it, it didn't have the facility for large pans, where the top drawer comes out and a spray head is put on so that you can do all the fridge or cooker shelves. Couldn't even buy parts as spares, why would they make it like this at all?

It has a cutlery shelf but it doesn't fit my cutlery as they have handles.

Works ok but the problems are one that it didn't occur to me to be potential problems, not highlighted and no big shope to actually speak to people.
