I need to send papers/court documents but I don't have the person's address

I will be coming to a situation where I will need get help with taking some civil action and send papers to someone for a case. However I don't have the person's address. I have a general idea and location of her.

What happens in cases like this? Do I need to go to the police to see if they can find her? Or will I ask some mutual people I know if they have her address or if they can get it for me but not without telling her.

I don't have her work address. I do have the old work address. Would I be able to send papers there? Would she deny getting papers if they were sent to her old work address? She likely would still get them.

I hope to take civil action seeking a court order.

Sheriff officers usually offer a "trace" system. Or a service system. Call your local ones and ask.

So please serve this on x, last known address y, ok madam. Here is the fee.

Or where does x live. They conduct a trace. Here is fee

Will my solicitor be able to guide me with this route?

How and where is she harassing you? Block her from sm and your phone.
If she's sending you stuff or doing this in person, isn't that evidence?

haje · 28/11/2024 20:47

@Fransons yes. I'm Scotland but would just take details and send to them and they would sort.

Bailiffs England perhaps?

Anyway it's a fairly easy process. Council tax records, etc. all can be checked

Process servers in England

I work as a fraud investigator, and do some process serving work as part of that, and also as a sideline for some extra money. I can offer some advice on finding someone suitable if you want to PM - I am not touting for business for myself!

It's long term harassment. I changed my number many times. She then spent years doing faking profiles but she's now sick of that route and it's emails. I don't click into them but I know with her tone before there is often demands to fix her feelings and fix this broken relationship and to give into her and it's just an interrogation. She has never once felt satisfied with Amy if her revenges and she just keeps doing it. She has escalated many times to my employer and she just won't accept that this is over and she just won't leave me alone. Her emails go in round about 4 or 5 times a year lasting for several weeks at a time it's often just a prescusor for her. It's a warning system from her that there's more to come of I don't tell her and explain to her why I am such a bitch and whatever other demands. It's real crazy stuff.

Pay a tracing agent.

Pay a tracing agent.

What will be the cheapest option please?
This or private investigator?

I have a general location of the person.

We were great friends I do happen to have her social security number from before too. She left her card behind before. So I do have a lot of details about her already.

It is possible to apply to the court for an order of substituted service. This means that if you can show the court you’ve made reasonable attempts to discover the defendants address, the court may dispense with postal service and permit service of proceedings by email.

as you are complaining of harassment by email you must have her current email address?

It’s rule 6.19 in this link

@Fransons a tracing agent will be cheaper and I don't think they charge if they can't find the person.
