GS want his mum to pick him up from school

I pick my grandson up from school with my own children. They all go to the same school. This is just in the afternoon not the mornings. The reason I do this is because the afternoon school run is extremely stressful when my adult dd is with us. GS and DD argue like teenagers. GS cries and screams dd shouts at him. It upsets my children to and its just really stressful and in all honesty I don't want to hear it.

Things have been extremely stressful for a long time and things are just starting to get better and less stressful. And I just don't want to have stress over again.

The problem is GS is asking me if his mum can pick him up because I do it every day. But in all honesty I can't do the stress of his mum being on the school run. I can't loose her either because we are in the same route and she knows I don't do stuff . So I'm stuck with her.

Either very slightly before Xmas or slightly after she will be moving house closer to the school so i won't be picking him up and dd will probably manage better as they will be close to the school .

I feel bad for GS because he wants his mum to pick him up . But I feel like I just want to fob him of for the need few weeks or so .

His mum can't be that bad though if he is asking for her to pick him up

Don't be ridiculous. Children love their parents unconditionally even if the parents are not a positive influence in their life.

I remember a poster with an adult daughter with bi polar who didn’t think it an influence on the adult DD poor parenting but not this situation. I’m wondering if it’s the same person.

That feels hard to answer in a way . When out on school I could say her parenting is not good at all. I don't know if its a mix of the bipolar alone with school run stress.
But when they are at home it seems to be ok. Maybe it's because it's home. I'm not sure . But its definitely more chilled and peaceful. Once in a blue moon she will tell Me she can't cope etc and gs will come for a sleep over. I'm not even sure if that's entirely true because within a shirt while she's posting happy dancy type stuff on social media.

@Shithole101 It's nice to 'see' you, I haven't seen any posts from this username & I forget the name to changed to for the painting etc 🙇🏻‍♀️I miss those!

I think it's best if you just say, ' it's not long now until Christmas Holidays & moving to your new house, then I think Mum will pick you up most of the time then, I'll miss you though, so will DS & DS'

and just keep repeating that.

Hope everything else is going ok 👌🏼

I think your right . I will just keep it simple. And if gs actually gets upset re think things a bit. It won't be much longer really
.

But the shouting at him all the way home will presumably continue?
So not the best solution for your gs at all.

I think she meant your DD will carry on (start again) shouting at him when she starts picking him up again.

How old is your GS OP? Does your DD have an OH?

No we are in exactly the same school run at exactly the same time. On exactly the same route.

If he asks her I don't think she would automatically say yes . I think he would have to go in at her quite a bit before she agreed .

And that’s why he wants her, because for whatever reason she doesn’t want to collect him, and that rejection is upsetting him.

sounds hard.

I meant on the journey home. But your response is heartbreaking in itself.
He’s shouted at in the street, as soon as he leaves school, then totally ignored when they get home??
Some real intervention is needed here.

Ok 🤷🏻‍♀️
You said he gets himself a snack and goes on his tablet. Not much involvement or interaction from his Mum there. How old is he?

I said he gets himself a snack and goes on his tablet and it gos quite . I never said there's no interaction or involvement. At this point his mum is getting dinner ready . And sorting a few bits . Since the travel home had been stressful that time alone is probably needed. They are normally OK for the rest of the night.

So when she has to actually parents him she shouts at him but when they get home he's on a tablet and doesn't bother her so she's fine?

That poor, poor child :(
