Thanks to storm Bert blowing through a window all night long unbeknownst to us, our spare bedroom carpet is partially soaked. (Wet to touch but not pooling water, for best description)

we’ve been running a dehumidifier but it doesn’t seem to be doing anything.

i need it to dry asap as we’re due guests this weekend. Please help!

Hairdryer
Hire a wet dry vac thing/carpet cleaner
Fan heater left on in room
Towel laid over the damp patch to soak up

Out dehumidifier lifts 36 litres or thereabouts a day. It took us two weeks to dry the place totally after a leak. We had one in each room. How much water are you getting out?

Hire a rug dr and go over it multiple times on the suctiob mode. Then a combination of heating on high and a dehumidifier.

We have this one: https://amzn.eu/d/7pwO7Mz
Ive emptied it twice but neither occasion was it actually completely full. I expected it to pull so much more but we’ve only had it a few days so possibly I’m not familiar with what’s normal.

thanks- will try these suggestions

Blast the heating. I’d probably have it professionally cleaned as they can suck up any stagnant water and prevent any stains.

The drawer/tank of your dehumidifier doesn’t hold 12 litres, that’s the amount of water it can collect in a day. You would need to empty the tank six times (or mine has a tube that you can run to a drain so it runs constantly). You have closed the window now, I assume? The dehumidifier needs to run in a closed room. It will take some time (days) to dry a soaking carpet, it takes hours to dry clothes that have been spun in the washing machine even when they are hung up with air circulating round.

You need to soak up as much of the 'wetness' from the carpet as possible otherwise mould will set in and smell of constant damp.
Get a big towel to cover the area and then walk all over it.
Like, really dig your heels in.
Use as many towels as needed to get rid of the wetness (put them into the washing machine immediately) and then when the carpet is just touch damp, close the door and any windows to the room and use your dehumidifier.

@CharliesAngles great advice.
