M&S period briefs

Just bought for my DD but there are no care instructions included and none on their website. Anyone bought these and can shine a light on how I should be washing them?

Do I pre soak before washing or just rinse? Do I need a specific product to wash them with? Do I use fabric conditioner?

Another question: How many pairs do your DDs have? Was thinking 6 pairs to start with. She wears a pair in the day then shower evening so would need another pair after her shower.

She's only just had her first period so it's early days in terms of knowing what her flow will be like.

I also can't find a way to contact M&S on their webpage in order to ask about washing / care instructions.

Any advice gratefully received.

rinse until the water runs clear and leave until ready to wash (apparently, you aren't supposed to leave them soaking). Wash, but no fabric softener and you are supposed to dry away from direct heat.

well, that was my instructions from my wuka ones. i do sometimes tumble dry mine, but on a low heat.

DD has 5 pairs, which i think is just about manageable. you have to keep on top of them though - i feel like im constantly washing them, but at least its only a few days a month. 5 pairs are enough, but its the drying that's the issue, which is why i sometimes have to tumble dry them.

I have some M and S period pants. I wear them with a tampon on heavier days in case of leakage or on their own on lighter days. I don’t soak or rinse them. Just put them in the wash at 30 degrees, usual detergent and fabric softener.

Scarydinosaurs · 26/11/2024 21:26

Same as @BananaSpanner above - stick in the wash no soaking etc.

they’ve been great for me - really rate them.

Dont use softner and rinse them in cold water before a wash.

Donutofdoooooom · 26/11/2024 21:29

I rinse them if I'm not putting a wash on that day, otherwise just straight in a normal wash. You aren't supposed to use fabric conditioner with them as it'll effect the absorbency but tbh I forget sometimes and no issues so far a few years down the line.

How many you need depends on flow and how often you are washing, they do take a bit longer to dry than a standard pant.

Gothamcity · 26/11/2024 21:30

I have the primark ones, I rinse them well in the shower with cool water and then chuck them in the wash with bath towels, other underwear and stuff like that. I wouldn't not rinse them, or wash them with tea towels, flannels etc.

Anjo2011 · 26/11/2024 21:30

Cold water rinse, then in the washing machine on 30 with no softener. After a few wears they can develop a bit of a smell, add some white vinegar to the soak and then wash as normal.

auberginepeel · 26/11/2024 21:33

Mine just go in the dark wash as normal 40C (like others I use tampons on my heavy day so they're never soaking) but DH tries to remember to not put them in the dryer (laundry is his domain!) I have 6 pairs, I could probably use another 3. I wish they were around when I was a teen.

BananaSpanner · 26/11/2024 21:33

I had a look on the website, there don’t appear to be care details for the first period/younger ones but the main knickers have washing instructions in the care information.

auberginepeel · 26/11/2024 21:34

And tbh as it's normal wash they have fabric conditioner, though will change that if I end up having to buy more too soon!

Challengedbutenlightened · 26/11/2024 21:34

I treat mine exactly the same way I did cloth nappies. Washing powder not liquid as liquid coats and reduces absorbency. No fabric conditioner. Rinse, wash and then quick wash no detergent lots of spins after. I find primark are rubbish compared to Wuka and body form. Not been able to find M&S ones in my local branch but really want to try them! Let us know how you get one

It keeps defaulting back to the app which doesn’t have the washing instructions in but it says this:
Care

Wash at 40°C

Do not bleach

Do not tumble dry

Iron at low temperature

Do not dry clean

auberginepeel · 26/11/2024 21:36

@Challengedbutenlightened crikey that sounds like a job!

womenloveittoo · 26/11/2024 21:42

I just wash mine as normal but I use a pad too. I don't trust the briefs alone. Also feels fresher to change the pads rather than be in the knickers all day. Personal choice though I know.

JBJ · 26/11/2024 21:46

I've had M&S ones for a while now and will admit to never reading the care label, so they go through the washing machine as normal with a liquid tab, softener and are then tumble dried! Oops Confused However, I can confirm that after a year of doing everything I apparently shouldn't be doing, they still look absolutely fine and are as absorbent as they've always been!

I've got 12 pairs in total - 6 bought initially, then more purchased more recently.

VikingLady · 26/11/2024 22:09

DD and I must have around 15 pairs between us, various brands. They get thrown into the old nappy bucket until the period is over (away from radiators etc!) with a quick rinse under the cold tap first if it's a heavy day. Then tip the bucket into the machine, a cold rinse cycle, then a normal wash without conditioner.

I do tumble dry ours. I loathe having washing drying all over the house. They're into their third year and all doing well.

CrispWinterSunshineBright · 27/11/2024 07:00

Get her to rinse them off when she is in the shower then wash. Low heat. No fabric conditioner.
Ideally dry in sunshine
I put mine over the top of the heated airer - but not directly on the hot parts IYSWIM

Haroldwilson · 27/11/2024 07:02

I just chuck in the wash with everything else.

Don't use fabric conditioner, that works by putting a thin film of oil on fabric which makes it waterproof and so less absorbent and builds up over time. You want period pants to be absorbent.

allmybooksarefromthelibrary · 27/11/2024 07:08

I soak DD’s in a lidded bucket with cold water until ready to do a darks wash, then rinse (by hand or in the machine depending what I can be bothered to do) then just wash on a 30 with everything else. No fabric conditioner and I don’t tumble dry them.

DD doesn’t like the M&S ones as much as the Modi Bodi ones though, which is annoying as they are much cheaper!

gingeristhenewblack43 · 27/11/2024 08:40

Thanks everyone! Some mixed replies but I'm going to go with rinsing, washing at 30° and no fabric conditioner.
