Etsy selling mass produced stuff

Isn't it meant to be the opposite of that? I always thought it was hand crafted stuff.

Just had an ad for Etsy come up on fb - advertising those colourful scandi socks that you can buy from Ali express 5 pairs for 2.59. All they've done is market them as "personalised wild swimming socks" and attached a printed label to them with your name on it 😂

I used to sell on Etsy but stopped when I was overwhelmed by competition from mass produced crap, and their algos changed so that it was very difficult to sell enough as a small business without pumping lots of cash into advertising and fake reviews.

And some customers would want handmade but at the convenience of mass produced eg they got stroppy when I couldn’t offer next day shipping to the US, which just wasn’t possible.

I used to sell handmade crocheted items on Etsy but have recently given up. It is indeed filled with cheap mass produced rubbish now. Combined with the way Etsy treats its sellers it really isn’t worth me using anymore.

Etsy is just infested with drop shippers now. If they are not drop-shipping, they are selling tat from Temu as "handmade"

The genuine makers are still there but we are so hard to find. I don't have much up any more as it isn't worth my time. I'm concentrating on building up my own website instead

The worst thing is, there are many people who want to buy from real makers, crafter's, artists and it's quite hard to find them. I loved that about Etsy years ago.
