I have Acid reflux and need help!

I have GERD diagnosed 2 years ago. Was on the PPIs but was told by consultant they are not suitable for long term use so don't get a prescription anymore. Have had endoscopy and nothing sinister found

However, it's getting worse. I wake up with it now, despite not eating any of the 'trigger' foods. Every time I eat I can feel the food regurgitate after about 20 mins. I never vomit but I can feel it there in my throat. It doesn't seem to matter what I eat or don't eat, it's just every time I eat

It's got to the point where I've lost some of my appetite (fine because I could lose some pounds anyway)

I don't smoke or drink regular alcohol ( it's a trigger anyway, as is chocolate)

Will this get better? I wouldn't say I'm overweight but do have very large cup size and I'm short and I wonder if my bra alone would be causing me problems?! Maybe a long shot!

Has anyone successfully reversed GERD?

Have a look at bentonite clay to see if that might help.

I’ve been on Omeprazole for 9 years with no issues for reflux associated with Crohns,

I’ve been on Omeprazole for 9 years with no issues for reflux associated with Crohns,

Edited

This is what I was prescribed for 2 years and then they stopped them. To be honest it was bit hit and miss with the results and I was never quite sure they did the job!

I’ve been experimenting with Omeprazole for the last few months. I found for the first week or two that it was working, and then it sort of stopped. I kept taking it regardless. And then I tried not taking it and it seemed to make no difference as I still had the acid. So then I tried taking it every other day and that seemed to help a bit, until it didn’t. Now I don’t take it at all, and I can’t see any difference with the acid. At one stage I had to sleep pretty much upright.

I don’t eat any of the foods on the list to avoid either - no spicy or fatty stuff for me, no caffeine.

I’ve not had coffee for a good few days, I don’t know if it’s too soon to expect a difference.

Gaviscon does work for me but the relief is very temporary indeed, a matter of minutes.

I was on omeprazolone but it didn't agree with me pantprazolone I'm on now and no side effects whatsoever and works very quickly

Have gou propped the head of your bed up? I had to do the GERD diet for a month and sleep pretty much on a slant for ages. I still have to go back on occasion but it usually sorts it out. I sleep don't sleep flat though, albeit not as upright as before.

What is the GERD diet?

I'm just confused as to why I suddenly got it when I've never in my life had acid issues, even when pregnant or when my diet in my 20's was awful and full of binge drinking

Might it be worth getting another gastroscopy? My showed a hiatal hernia was causing the reflux (stomach pushes through the hole in the diagram causing reflux) and they're very common.

Are you anywhere near perimenopause?

I'm 51 and although I have suffered with IBS since my 20's as soon as I hit the age of 45 I started to suffer from awful upper gut issues. I have had endless tests but all ok. My gastro says it's just functional dyspepsia.

I am really careful with my diet and only drink water, I don't drink or smoke and exercise but I have this issue all the time.

I am convinced perimenopause and my hormones are to blame.

I am 42 and this started approx 2 years ago. I'm not sure if I'm peri, I take the pill and have regular normal periods so I'd have no idea if I was.

So... although to still get the odd day of reflux, I stopped taking a multivitamin ( and iron) and high dose vitamin D and the reflux seems to have resolved

Never thought there would be a link between supplements and reflux but a quick internet search shows it's not that uncommon. So for anyone who is still suffering and taking multivitamins then maybe stop for a week to see if it helps!

I have certain trigger foods, foods that can only be eaten at certain times of day and then foods which are normally fine but I have to abstain from during an episode.

Pasta is one that I can’t eat after lunch. If I have it I close to bed, I wake up with terrible burning.

Once I have set it off, it takes around 5 nights of awful burning and me eating bland food to recover.
