Perfect bedside light

Can anyone help me in my search please.

I'm looking for a bedside lamp, ideally traditional style, which is dimmable (but not with a cycle of pushes that get brighter, then go off again, like all the ones I've found) but where you can just turn it on dimmly then off again. My daughter is up a lot in the night and I just need to see enough to not fall over!

I had thought this IKEA lamp would be ideal but it comes on quite brightly even at the lowest setting.

Thanks!

TÄRNABY black, anthracite, table lamp - IKEA

A table lamp in anthracite black inspired by kerosene lamps. Features a dimmable bulb that mimics a live flame and offers soft, warm lighting.

You can change the lamp socket on your existing one for a dimmable.
Do a search for instructions on how. No electrical experience needed.
"Make a bedside light dimmable."

Or, you can buy stick on LEDs for the skirting board which have sensors, enough light to see safely. Amazon will have those.

Thanks @PiggyPigalle I never even thought of that!

A bit stupid really as I can actually do quite a lot of electrics around the house. I will get my current lamp sorted out then 😃

I didn't know, I did a search.
I want both my bedside lights to operate from one switch. Have to find some I like and get an electrician in.

You could take a look at sunrise clock thingies. I have a very old Lumie light, which is the "proper" brand, but you can get cheaper ones now. Mine has a button that you hold down to slowly increase the brightness, and then another button to slowly decrease it. I think that would achieve what you want. I completely agree that the standard dimmer function which necessitates making the light brighter before it goes off is completely bonkers.

Although I just read your requirement that you'd like a traditional style. The sunrise lamps are all hideous unfortunately (I just choose to live with that). I'd also love to know if there is a better looking alternative out there!

Have you tried a smart bulb? You can usually dim those from 1% up to 100%, by voice or by app.

I have a string of fairy lights around the headboard with the battery pack tucked behind it, I just reach for the switch and it gives enough light to get up for the loo or to let the dog out.
I turn them on when I get into bed and scroll mn, like I'm doing now 😃
They cost £2.50 from Primark

@thesunisastar that's actually the light my husband has! I agree it's pretty much what I want in a horrible packaging 😂 But mostly I'm annoyed by the totally non-intuitive set up of it and every time we get a power cut (which is a few times a year) neither of us can seem to reset it properly and then the bloody birds start tweeting in the middle of the night. Also I think I'm against them as he likes the sunrise wake up to come on ages before the alarm, whereas I wake up to the faintest glimmer of light...

Thanks, that's a good idea but I'm not keen on "intelligent" devices
