Does EDS impact immunity?

If you have EDS or experience of it do you find it makes you more susceptible to illness in general ? As if somehow it affects the immune system?

Ds has had multiple investigations and nothing is wrong - except the EDS diagnosis but he’s constantly unwell. Temperatures and sore throats / earaches / d and v. We’ve had bloods and all fine. I’m starting to think is this just another symptom of EDS?

Both of my adult daughters have EDS (probably eldest son too but never diagnosed) One of them has MCA too. She used to have constant tonsilitis and chest infections as a teen and early 20s til her tonsils came out, but once that trigger was gone she has been much healthier since. Still prone to chest infections but not as frequently .

Not in my experience. I don't get ill more often than anyone else.

Yes I have an impaired immune system and I get ill all the time. I also have EDS. I haven’t been told the two are linked but it makes sense to me

There is significant evidence demonstrating that EDS frequently goes hand in hand with autoimmune disorders. I have four children with varying degrees of EDS and dd1 and I are wheelchair users. Ds2 uses crutches and has orthotic supports and dd2 has MCAS.

Thankyou this is so helpful as I’ve been so desperate and wondering what is going on but this makes so much sense . I’m going to look into it more

EDS makes your body work harder. Your muscles work harder to support your frame. Plus, EDS can cause skin fragility and poor wound healing.

Joint and muscle pain can cause poor sleep.

So it figures that your immune system would be impacted by your body working so hard, and not getting decent sleep. Things like tonsillitis and ear infections can also take longer to heal if the skin is affected.
