Struggling on change to Universal Credit and Monthly payments.

I am on disability benefits and have recently switched to Universal Credit.

Even before UC when I worked I was on a weekly wage (small businesses) so from 18 I've only ever been used to getting money weekly.

As well as my disabilities I have autism/ADHD and I get so overwhelmed with financial stuff.

I've been so used to getting CTC every Friday, so that when I do my weekly shop.

I've always only ever had to 'make it to the end of the week' to get paid.

And now I get all my money once a month and it's scary

I also have to pay my rent directly, which is already all set up with DDs but jut the thought of something going wrong and me being liable is freaking me out so much.

Has anyone else struggled with this?

I was thinking of transferring money to another account so I have a set amount each week that I will send back but then ig I get called in for a UC review I've read they will see that same amount going in and out of the account and see it as new money?

Write a list of your weekly outgoings / have a weekly budget and keep track of how much you spend for that week. Tell yourself that you cannot go over that weekly spend.

Can you get a monzo account and then it all in the same ‘account’ but you put it into weekly ‘pots’. Can be really helpful for budgeting.

You can ask for more frequent payments.

Yes as previous poster says you can ask for 2 payments a month or even weekly. You ask on your journal even if you explain it as you have on here. Explain that you are vulnerable and if your PIP includes the managing money descriptor then state that too. If you have debt to manage then explain that and if they refuse then seek help to challenge the decision.

I didn't know this
Thankyou
Fortnightly would be so much more manageable

Really good advice above about applying to get more frequent payments.

I was going to suggest our local food bank have a support service alongside, you don’t need to be using the food bank to access it, and they have someone who will help people with budgets. Something like that could be worth looking for.
