To spend with your partner, what would you do?
weather looks horrendous. Am all out of ideas!

The British Museum
The National History Museum
Natural History Museum visit, across the Strand to Covent Garden then on to SoHo

lonelyweather · 23/11/2024 19:23

Thanks! Do you mean the national gallery then onto soho? That’s quite a good shout …

Food or drink somewhere nice, gallery or window shop at a festively-decorated department store. Walk somewhere central with landmarks if you have umbrellas & gloves.

Loopytiles · 23/11/2024 19:23

I like the portrait gallery, national or tate britain

RosieLeaf · 23/11/2024 19:24

The British Museum, a solo set lunch in a rooftop restaurant somewhere, then a walk along the Thames path

Weepingwillows12 · 23/11/2024 19:24

I would have a nice lunch of foods they would never eat and then go to a gallery or shopping. I like the immersive art stuff that's trendy lately but might go classic national gallery or Tate.

Theatre. The booth on Leicester sq

AnnaDelvorkina · 23/11/2024 19:25

I’d go to a museum or two and somewhere cosy for coffee, possibly shopping if I needed something and the shop(s) aren’t too crowded or a faff. Walk if rain permits.

Weepingwillows12 · 23/11/2024 19:26

Or if I knew I didn't have to go back to them that day might relive my youth and go to Camden market and find a band on somewhere.....

lonelyweather · 23/11/2024 19:28

Great suggestions everyone! Lots of memories around Covent Garden/ Bloomsbury/ southbank. So I can’t decide if we should go there or avoid those places

Yes, National Gallery then onto Soho via Covent Garden. The Christmas lights will be up, it will be busy but not so bad as Oxford Street/Regent Street and far more to do and see than Southbank.

Enjoy
I go to London on my own for one night once or twice a year.
always do theatre in the evening. Do at least one, usually 2 museums
have a nice lunch or dinner the first day, then breakfast and late lunch the next day. I’m easily pleased for breakfast and snacks usually somewhere like pret as there is not one near me at home.
sometimes do a bit of shopping e.g. the big John Lewis at Westfield or Oxford Street. If bored of shopping might stop for coffee or glass of Prosecco- I have lots of little treats during the 24 hours!

Nomorecoconutboosts · 23/11/2024 19:44

Oh just seen another thread - lobster burger sound lush
and the aire Roman baths…

so much to see and do…

Printedword · 23/11/2024 19:47

Monet Exhibition at the Courtauld Gallery would be top of my current list

Scrambledchickens · 23/11/2024 19:50

Lunch then theatre

Mum2jenny · 23/11/2024 19:52

Science Museum every time. I go there if I’m in London and have any spare time.

What's the appeal with window shopping? I don't get it, walking up to a window looking in the window and moving on? Sounds exhilarating.
