Wobbly when I stand up

I'm flummoxed what's wrong with me. I was all fired up to tidy the house today but started feeling wobbly / dizzy while standing up.
Not immediately after standing but the same kind of empty whirly head you get from standing too quickly.
I keep sitting on the sofa to rest and feel okay here. But whenever I stand and go to carry on tidying I start to feel like I am going to faint.
I've eaten some food, have had drinks. No other symptoms except a slight shakiness.
Any clues what's happening please anyone?

Do you have anxiety? Did you get enough sleep? Do you have blood pressure issues or any chronic conditions?

Discombobble · 23/11/2024 16:38

Vertigo? I get an attack maybe twice a year, lasts a couple of days and then goes again. Apparently not a sign of anything else

Sprig1 · 23/11/2024 16:38

Likely some low level virus. Keep your fluid levels up and take it easy.

BookGoblin · 23/11/2024 16:40

This is a blocked ear symptom for me

BlueMoanday · 23/11/2024 16:41

No anxiety or any conditions
Not enough sleep generally but I had 8 hours last night.
I'll go and read about vertigo thanks

That's how I know a lurgy is coming on for me..it's a decent alert system.

Whatever lurgy it is shows it's face in the couple of days afterwards.

Hi Op, I had exactly this a few years ago and it turned out to be labyrinthitis (vertigo as a pp has mentioned).

My symptoms worsened though and when I stood up I felt absolutely awful, like I was going to faint, felt sick, god it was horrendous.

However, I was prescribed some tablets and it did ease in a few days and it has never happened since.

Hope you feel better soon.

I’ve been having this and it turns out I am very low in both folate and ferritin - so, anaemia. Worth getting your iron levels checked if there isn’t another immediate cause.

olderbutwiser · 23/11/2024 16:43

If you turn your head does the world keep spinning? (Not exorcist style, i hasten to add). BPPV for me when this happens, although confusingly i once had labyrinthitis when the world spun regardless of me moving.

That or low blood pressure?

Cantalever · 23/11/2024 16:45

Could it be low blood sugar? When you have something to eat, avoid sugar but have some protein and a small amount of carb. That should stabilise your blood sugar in the short term as long as you don't overdo exercise in the meantime - and anxiety can affect this too.

Nothing spins when I move my head sitting down. It seems to be when I have walked from the sofa to the kitchen (5 metres?) it kicks in.
I have eaten a cheese sandwich and a cake and that didn't help.

That is exactly how I felt with vertigo, absolutely fine sitting down (felt like a fraud) but as soon as I got up and walked anywhere like the sofa to kitchen it come on as you describe.

Sounds just like vertigo @Badburyrings and @Discombobble thank you
