Euston Station now before that it was the US Embassy and Gatwick. Also Chester and Glasgow. All within a few days of each other.

It’s very odd and concerning.

When they say they’ve done a controlled explosion, does that mean they just blow up the worrying looking object without looking at it, just in case?

Basically yes.
There used to be lots of these in Belfast etc back in the day. Cars quite often parked where they shouldn’t have been.

Yes on radio some ex security chief said this is the kind of thing Russia will do to attack us. Grind us to a halt.

I’ve also wondered about this.

I think it means some sort of explosive is found - and they safely detonate it. (Which is worrying)

Rather than (a possible) backpack of socks being destroyed - just in case.

Yes, we go through spells of this during times of unrest.

I was a civil servant and Special Constable in the 90's and 2000's. It was noticeable when the Gulf War was active for example that we would be constantly raising our alert levels accordingly. I worked at a huge government office complex with 10,000 staff, and we were a huge target. At the time, we housed the only computer that held the entire countries National Insurance records. We are constantly being evacuated when our main post room identified potential suspicious packages.

That’s what I wondered- was it just a bag of socks or was it an actual bomb?

No it doesn’t necessarily mean an explosive device was found. It just means the bomb squad blew up whatever they were doubtful about.

My friend left her briefcase on a bus full of army families once in NI (she had got on it by mistake, and rushed off leaving it behind by accident. Which was incredibly suspicious behaviour 🤦‍♀️).

Of course they blew it up.

It was a long time ago and we had a good laugh about it. 👍

I see that someone has now been charged with a bomb hoax over the US Embassy incident.

JackJarvisEsq · 25/11/2024 18:02

I was mortified and furious in equal measure when my gran left her bag unattended in Euston to go for a smoke

she gave no fuks even when getting a stern talking to by an armed officer

nothing got in the way of her and her Embassy no1s
