Should I buy an air fryer?

Family of 4 with 2 insatiable teenage boys

Is there one big enough to cook for 4 in or am I better off sticking with the oven?

what are the pros / cons?

is it likely to end up taking up space in a cupboard with the rice cooker and steamer?!

Lol I've had my first airfryer for less than a month and I'm already scheming and planning for my second and wondering whether to ditch the oven altogether when I move into my new house and use the space the oven takes up for an extra cupboard.
So yes!

Hmmm. I’m tempted. DH isn’t so keen but can’t really explain why!

Does a decent sized chicken fit in one with shelves?

A chicken will fit into all but the smallest air fryers. If you buy one and show your kids how to use it, they will love it.

IMO they cook not quite enough chips...

Meh. If you're cooking for 5 it's probably not big enough. Fine if it's just a few wee bits. Quite handy for reheating leftovers. I use my pressure cooker all the time so I'm not averse to a gadget but I don't get the hype with these.

Reminds me of the 80/90s when folk went mad for the microwave. My mother still has all her microwave cookery books. 😆

I’ve just bitten the bullet and bought my first, a Ninja dual drawer one. Really impressed so far.

ladymalfoy45 · 23/11/2024 15:55

We got the Ninja dual one last year. I use it everyday. Frozen pain au chocolate, cinnamon swirls etc for breakfast.
Frozen sausage rolls for snacks after school. Burgers, fries, wedges, chips, fajitas.
I've not baked anything in it yet but want to try.
As PPs have said get liners.

I did a shoulder of lamb today. I cut it in two and used both drawers. Took 35 minutes and was absolutely cooked to perfection. The energy used is way less than an oven.

We are a family of 6 and have the Tefal 5 in 1 with shelves. I LOVE it. The children make themselves meatballs for pasta; scampi; bacon and part-baked baguettes; puff pastry pasties; all kind of things. And because it has a countdown timer, and turns itself off, nothing overcooks.
