Heated blankets

Ooh, I do love my heated blanket! I want to buy one for DP for Christmas but reviews are mixed, some of them seem to break pretty quickly. Can you recommend one please? Also, just out of interest - is it cheaper to boil the kettle and fill up my hot water bottle or use a heated blanket for a few hours. Keep cosy and thanks!

I have no clue on the cost. I've just got a heated throw as an early Christmas gift and it's amazing. It's so snug. I'm on night shift and getting into my warm bed and wrapping myself up is amazing.

I much prefer the heated blanket to water bottles. Not sure about running costs but you get a bigger evenly distributed warmth with the blanket. I have several brands of blanket, all have timer/heat settings, but the Dreamland one is by far the best. Originally from Lakeland shop I believe, but stocked elsewhere.

Dreamland - every time! They are worth the money, I have a few and they are going strong even after being put to the full test by cats, young children, a DH that leaves them screwed up in a ball....

This! Bought one as a gift and it's still going strong after 5 years. Bought a Sainsbury's/Habitat one for me and it stopped working after a month. I've just replaced it with a Dreamland one and it's lovely!

I personally wouldn't worry so much about the cost of boiling the kettle vrs electric bill, but the safety of it all. If used correctly, I think a heated blanket is better. Less risk of burns from a burst hot water bottle.

Thanks everyone! DP has spent most of the day under mine so he's definitely getting one of his own for Christmas!

We've all got silent night ones. Absolutely love them

I have a Silent Night (one of those which goes under the bedsheet as opposed to a blanket) and it’s been a godsend for the last 3 winters so far!

TalesOfTheGoldMonkey · 24/11/2024 00:17

Dreamland. I love mine.

With you or instead of you!!!!

why not buy him one like yours?

JedwardScissorhandz · 24/11/2024 06:33

mine came from a Lidl middle aisle deal. It’s been going for years. They had them in again when I went in Friday too.

ZippyDoodle · 24/11/2024 06:40

I'd choose a heated blanket over a water bottle.

I've got the faux fur Dreamland one. It's great. I was eyeing them up for ages Finally bought one in late February the other year from Dunelm when it was reduced. It had been reduced right down so was only about £50.

I'd go for a well known brand.

JubileeJuice · 24/11/2024 06:44

The Dreamland ones are the best. And much cheaper than filling hot water bottles. I use 5-6 a day and in my last house, I was on an electricity pre-payment meter. The balance would drop SO much when making a hot water bottle. We worked out we were spending £15+ a week just on them.
