This is not good.

Russia has been messing with our politics / elections etc for ages @Thegraduates

You fretting about it or not makes zero difference so do yourself a favour and think about Christmas instead!

ThatsNotMyTeen · 21/11/2024 15:38

And? What’s the alternative? We let Putin get away with continuing to do whatever the fuck he likes without consequence? Including, let’s not forget, the utterly dangerous deployment of nerve agents on our soil which killed one person and endangered god knows how many?

Someone needs to stand up to this prick

PrimitivePerson · 21/11/2024 16:03

Why is everyone so convinced the Russians are about to attack us?

Ain't gonna happen in a billion years.

noblegiraffe · 21/11/2024 16:10

Given that we’re at war with them, cold or hot, I really don’t think it’s a good idea for news programmes to continue to platform Russian mouthpieces so that they can spread their propaganda directly onto our airwaves. One was prattling on the other day on R4 about how the U.K. was risking nuclear attack by doing this. They’re saying that sort of thing to scare the public into losing support for Ukraine.

It shouldn’t be allowed.

OptimisticRealist2024 · 21/11/2024 16:19

@Thegraduates I was worried about this and tbh I've woken up every day dreading the news and not turning it off. But chat with DH last night put things into perspective: make your life nice, remind people how much you love them, and turn off the telly. Just see people you love, do things you love. What will happen will happen and there's effectively sod all we can do. ❤️

My grandparents were bombed repeatedly out of their houses in the Blitz. They couldn't afford to move out of London but always said they didn't see why they should give up just to please Hitler. I don't see why we should live in fear just because Putin wants it either.

But it's very easy to attack via banking, our water system, cyber attacks, our energy system...

Are you suggesting that fear of the unknown or risk should prevent us from doing what is right? If we had previously had that attitude this site would probably be in German.

Thegraduates · 21/11/2024 16:24

@EmmaMaria I don't want our country involved in a war. End of.

Thank you, your are absolutely right. My fear is that history has repeated itself since the beginning of time, we are very ignorant & entitled if we think our generation is any exception. It will just be fought differently.
Havn't brought myself to stock up on toilet paper yet though!

Unless you happen to be an arms dealer or complete psychopath who would want to be at war? Civilians the world over get dragged into wars not of their making. The problem is if you leave megalomanics like Hitler or Putin unchecked the problem gets worse not better.

Nobody does! But lying down and allowing warmongers to do whatever they want is the quickest way to ensure you end up with one.

Far too many Russian sympathises in the west right now and quite frankly it’s disgusting because we are defending democracy and freedom That’s the sort of person they’re going to get voted into America now because Donald Trump is too closeto Putin

"Democracy and freedom?" Spare me. Ukraine gave up the right to call itself free and democratic when Zelensky cancelled elections. He had no excuse; he just wanted to retain power. The US had an election in the middle of a civil war. Ukraine could do the same if it wasn't corrupt beyond redemption.

And that's what world war 3 will really be.

I'm not worried about nuclear war though

And any escalation is from russia. Kelin lies for a living.

How dare russia expand westwards and put nuclear weapons on NATOs border.

MyKindCrab · 21/11/2024 16:43

Russian propaganda. We have been involved for a while and Russia know this.

herecomesautumn · 21/11/2024 16:43

@LifeExperience 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Nice try

It's actually democratic to have a constitution and follow it

Elections are not allowed under martial law

How would they conduct an election anyway.

Have a wee think about that and how they would work

Hilarious

MyKindCrab · 21/11/2024 16:45

I genuinely had a chuckle at the idea you could have a national election while people are being bombed and having to flee for their lives.

Putin is backed into a corner, he will need to save face. I don't think we should have given Ukraine missiles if it puts the U. K at any risk of retaliation.. It is easier to target the UK geographically than the USA, we are a small island on the edge of Europe..

Putin is not backed into a corner he backed himself into a corner by invading a sovereign and independent country

Hi Vlad

GoldCat255 · 21/11/2024 17:00

This crazy idea that a bunch of countries could have in their possession enough nuclear weaponry to annihilate all forms of life on planet earth was never going to end up well, was it?
We have been deluding ourselves for a few decades. Our time is up.
Nuclear armageddon is just a question of time.

Isthisrightandlegal · 21/11/2024 17:01

MarkWithaC · 21/11/2024 15:24

Russia will not target the UK or any NATO member. If they did, all the rest of NATO would retaliate, and Putin/the Russian mafia would be toast.
As a pp says, it's sabre-rattling.

No they wouldn’t . They’d just condemn any attack, urge restraint to de escalate and say they have to avoid ww3

herecomesautumn · 21/11/2024 17:02

MyKindCrab · 21/11/2024 16:45

But the Americans managed it in the civil war

Which is totally the same situation

Honestly, the parroting of Kremlin crap is pathetic

I agree. MAD is no longer a deterrent

It’s certainly true that Russians have troll farms that infiltrate western social media and forums and post propaganda.

We have many very clever people quietly working in the background to plan for these types of things. You won't ever know how much goes on behind the scenes though as the government don't want to cause mass hysteria.

Unlike Russia, that haven of democracy and free speech, where corruption is unheard of and the Great Benevolent Leader would never invade a peaceful independent country or chuck his political opponents into hellish prisons...
