Replacing soles on boots

Having a wardrobe clear out and I have a few pairs of loved boots where the soles are completely destroyed from daily wear. Wanted to gauge if anyone does get them replaced and if so, how much they pay? They are mostly flat soles and worn out at the heel and/or ball of foot.

Im torn what to do - they will all have cost me under £50 each when I bought them (7-10years back) and I’m not keen on spending more than the initial cost on fixing each pair. Equally am very aware environmental impact of disposal is awful and I generally do try repurpose and reuse.

Is there anywhere that takes shoes to repurpose them? Would be happy to pay postage for them to be sent off somewhere that means they aren’t destined for landfill if fixing isn’t viable

Just go in to your local Timpsons and ask for a quote

I had my favourite boots re heeled a few times because they were the comfiest boots ever and I loved them.
Went in the bin last week - after years of good service !

It is quite expensive and in my opinion only worth it for good quality boots that you will get plenty of wear out of.
I have done it about 3 times now for my gardening boots, believe it or not. They are Clarks leather biker boots with a back zip and gusset so I leave the zip open to make slipping them on and off easier. They are flat soled too so no great lumps of mud in the tread to clean off. I bought them for about £20, worn once from eBay about 15 years ago but they have now split slightly on the upper so won't be waterproof and I need to decide whether to see if I can have that repaired, bearing in mind i cant find anything similar.
They have been worn virtually every day for hours so owe me nothing.

Thank you, I will go ask my local Timpson, sadly don’t think there is an independent near me otherwise that would be first choice. I have a strong feeling the cost won’t be worthwhile

I know what you both mean when you find the ideal boots that tick every box - I would probably pay a lot more for them to be restored. These pairs are not that wonderful - I would continue to wear occasionally if they were salvaged but not enough to justify paying more than half the cost of the boots.

Timpson are not really a faceless corporate

Timpson are far from a faceless corporate. They employ exoffenders and care leavers, they dry clean suits for unemployed people going to an interview, and all sorts of social enterprise work.

Thanks both, I can’t believe I didn’t know this. I searched through old threads before posting and many posters said go to a local independent over Timpson. After reading this, Timpson is exactly the kind of place I like to spend my money at
