Whatever your political leaning, it's a sad day for politics. Sad to hear Gordon Brown just now on radio 4 describe him as a Colossus then to hear that he died in a care home with Alzheimer's. Hard to imagine.
Still remembered who people were to the end and kept his warmth and friendliness.

A wonderful politician.
Yes flawed, yes made mistakes, like us all.
But definitely made a positive difference, not many of us that do that.
So thank you John, and rest in peace

Its a form of attention seeking, disrupt, get others to react, only one way to deal with such people and thats to starve them of reactions.

Yes, maybe they're only happy hanging around where they're not wanted, butting in to other people's conversations with snarky bollocks that they think is sharp but is really kinda droopy.

I was very sad to hear about this. He was indeed a colossus and an admirable who fought for what he believed and dedicated his life to serving others, having pulled himself up by his bootstraps.

It’s a great pity we don’t see many of his ilk in Parliament today.

RIP John.

I'm in the USA and had not seen anything about John Prescott's death until I saw it here on a thread (about how Tony Blair's bookcase looked odd when he gave his comment/eulogy).

I thought that the statement that Keir Starmer made in Parliament was a very good short summary for people who may not know or remember much about Prescott's political career and contributions. If there's one thing to say about him, it's that he absolutely spoke out, whether or not his views were popular, and that's a great quality and something that current politicians of all parties and politics should keep in mind.

RIP, John.

From Omid Djalili's Twitter feed:

I was fortunate to have spent a few days with #JohnPrescott on a TV ad in 2010 and enjoyed his company (and his wonderful sense of humour). On the egg incident he said it was total instinct, that “you don’t know it’s an egg when it’s thrown from that close. It could’ve been a gunshot. In that moment you can’t differentiate between blood or egg yolk running down your neck. So I reacted.” Many would’ve been buried by this incident. The fact that he could take all the jokes about it, even years after, says a lot about the man.

That's very interesting about the egg incident @WearyAuldWumman I watched the video a couple of times yesterday and I'm not surprised he reacted. It's not like the guy gently tossed something from a distance.

Yes, it was really close range. If someone did that to an MP today I think they would be in trouble, like the woman with the milkshake.
