Adding teen daughter to car insurance

Hi there, would so appreciate guidance on good companies to use to insure teen daughter as she learns to drive. I know there are some companies that offer cheaper rates for girls/ only charge for when they are behind wheel etc. Would welcome any advice. Thanks

We used Collingwood for ds insurance while learning. They do short term policies, so we did one for six months and he passed in five. The car had to have an existing policy on it, which it did in my name. His policy only covered him when he was driving it supervised. When he passed we had to cancel it and take out a proper one.

My existing company wouldnt add him as a learner to the existing policy and when he passed, the new policy is in his name (as I have my own car) so he can, hopefully, build up his own name claims.

Insurer's are not allowed to offer cheaper rates for female driver's anymore, although they might reduce the premium without advertising they do.

Our insurers wouldn't cover DD while she was learning so we had to take out a 6 month policy with Dayinsure which I think was through the RAC.

The policy only covered DD while she was learning. As soon as she passed her test the coverage lapsed, literally it stopped as soon as she was told she had passed by the examiner, so I drove us back home and then added her to our existing policy.

My dd was added with admiral for a really low fee, but insurance is very low cost where I live so it helps.

We used Veygo which was recommended by MNetters. You can insure them for very short periods as in hours or months at a time. The car has to have a full insurance policy on it, mine did in my name, and this is a separate insurance policy with Veygo meaning if they have an accident it didn't affect my policy.

Marmalade. I work for a cat I surqncw company and we recommend them

We used Marmalade for both girls on my Mini Cooper to learn.

When they passed, they each had a Fiat 500, with their own insurance, on a family multicar policy. We couldn't insure them on my or DH's cars.

We used Collingwood to ensure DS as a learner but that was in a car he owned not named driver on ours. Because of our postcode we could only find 1 company that would ensure him when he passed though and that was Ticker.

We were insured with the Post Office when Dd was a learner but when she passed her test they wanted to charge £3000 for an annual policy. We used Ticker instead, they were £1550 and had good reviews. I was a bit apprehensive as you can't speak to anyone but the online chat works very well if you need help. We've just insured with them for a 2nd year after checking other options. it was £600 less than last year so getting better!

My insurance company advised I didn't add DD to my policy as it would affect my NCD and premium if anything happened. We got PAYG insurance with Veygo which worked out at around £36 per month for my car. Unfortunately when she bought a car of her own to learn in, they were unable to cover her so we used Adrian Flux which was a little more expensive as she was close to passing so didn't need it for so long.
