Migraines with aura (no headache)

I just had one after 3+ (almost 4 years) of not having one . I thought they were down to my iron deficiency, but I had an iron infusion about a month ago, so it can't be that.

Any way to prevent them? Or just wait and see?

I've just had one of these today (although I've had the ones with headache too). In my case it's triggered by tiredness and stress, have never heard about iron deficiency. As far as I know my iron levels are ok

I get these. If I don’t treat it, I get pain eventually.

I do have ongoing issues with anemia, but my migraines with just aura long predate that.

They've usually been hormone related for me

I get them rarely now, but when I do it is towards the end of my period every time. Never had one when not on my period

I don't get a headache, but I do have a thick head, not sure how else to describe it, just like it is tender.

What do you do once you get one? I'm having a headache as we speak! Which is extremely rare for me

My sister was a GP, before burnout, and suffers from migraines (as do I, the joys). She has taken herself, and recommends, some supplements that have been proven in studies to help.

The ones she linked me to for a friend the other week were "Migrasoothe" which has riboflavin aka vitamin b2 and ginger and some other stuff. And then magnesium at a dose of 400-600 mg per day.

Also hormone related for me as well. As soon as one starts, I need to lie down in a dark room and do nothing until it passes. if I don't, I will feel weird for the rest of the day.

I get them every now and then, usually when I'm dehydrated. If I chug back a load of water when I start to get aura I can sometimes stop them.

YarkYark · 20/11/2024 16:58

Do you need to do anything? If this is the only one after four years then, unless they start to recur, the next might be another four years away. Wait and see what happens.

I was getting a few a year, like you aura but no headache, then suddenly they increased, up to three a day (panic all round). GP put me on Topirimate and I've had one this year. There a lot of migraine meds out there.

I think mine are hormone related as I started having them when I started my periods, then again when pregnant, and now during peri-menopause.
I don't get many, maybe two or three a year, with the aura and my head feels hot if that makes sense.
As soon as I sense the aura I lie down in a dark room, take ibuprofen and sleep it off. I usually feel drained afterwards for a day or so.
