Projectors: what do I need to know?

So the dc don't know what they want for Xmas and I really haven't got time for that nonsense 😂. So, those projectors look great! Are they? What do I need to know?

I have one and recently bought one for a friend for her birthday. They are great. I bought them off ebay, they were £24.59 and called Northern Lights Aurora Galaxy Project Lamp. It has a remote so you can slow down the speed of the aurora or you can put stars on the landcape or a moon as in my picture. They are great for a movie night having it on in the background and you can freeze on a particular colour you like too. It even lets you connect to bluetooth speakers I believe. I love it on in the background in a dark bedroom whilst I watch telly, it really is my relaxation in the evenings. If you go on the ebay listing you can watch a video of what it looks like for further info. I lost my lead and ended up buying a cheap one from poundland and after a while it stopped projecting after five minutes. I nearly bought a new projector as I had been so pleased with it but in the end I found the lead and its worked fine ever since - that was five weeks ago! So make sure you don't lose the charging cable!

That does look cool! I should have said I was looking at the movie projectors. Sorry, expecting you to read my mind. Will definitely look at what you have posted as an additional gift, especially at that price. Thank you.

I'm going to bump this as I need to know the same 🙈

My DD wants a mini projector which will connect to her phone with WiFi. I saw this but it says to watch Netflix you'd need a tv stick?

Help! Sorry OP to hijack.

Main things to consider are resolution and brightness.

All of the cheap ones lie, about both. For example they say 4k or fullHD referring to being able to accept a high def signal, but their 'native' resolution might be 640x480 pixels.

It depends on what you want it for - if its for kids watching streaming services look at anker nebula as a starting place and add a firestick or plug a phone /laptop/tablet with a hdmi into it. As you go up the prices, some will have built in wifi, i think the Samsung one has built in apps and wifi. A lot of the really cheap ones may not even have sound.... For a 'fun' toy for the kids ina dark bedroom 720p 200 lumens will be ok ish... For a family setup in a semi lit room with a bjg screen brighter the better.

@FixTheBone thank you!

It's for my uni student DD to watch films in her room/ at home with others. So would plugging the phone in with an HDMI cable mean you don't need a tv stick? She has an iPhone with apps like Disney and Netflix. I think she is under the impression that if you link the projector to your phone by Bluetooth you can play whatever is on your phone.

I'm so clueless 😂

I think you still need a tv stick, when I was looking into one for Ds most of the reviews I read said you needed one for the £70-£100 range. I imagine better quality ones are built in. The smaller fire stick is £21 atm on Amazon.

Workiskilligme · 27/11/2024 03:44

I've decided to buy a TV instead!!

I don't use an iphone, but it looks like it should work if the hdmi adapter cable and the projector are both fully hdcp (video copy protection) compliant - bit there's a lot of people reporting issues getting it working reliably....

Bluetooth doesnt support video at all, so it would need to be wifi, or a hdmi cable.
