What should I spend this money on?

I made some extra money (circa £300) that I wasn't at all expecting. I want to splurge it, because I never do that with money, and it doesn't feel like real money anyway. It sort of feels like holiday money.

Only problem is I'm not sure what to buy. I'd love some mumsnet inspo. So if you had £300 to splurge, what would you buy?

For splurge perhaps meal out or hotel /b and b?

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 19/11/2024 23:28

A good coat! Or is that too boring?

ProvincialLady24 · 19/11/2024 23:29

If you're not really yearning for anything- save it so that it's there for something else another time.

JW13 · 19/11/2024 23:33

Right now I'd either buy:
Nice jewellery (Monica Vinader?)
A nice piece of art (probably a print for that budget)
An away suitcase (because I love them but they're expensive for a suitcase and they currently have 25% off and I haven't seen that before)

But I have a wardrobe full of nice shoes/bags/coats and don't need any more! If I didn't have my current wardrobe I would probably spend it on a bag/shoes (maybe boots?)/a coat.

A nice problem to have. I hope you enjoy spending it :)

Save it for a holiday, no point splurging now if there's nothing you really want.

cansu · 19/11/2024 23:37

Save it fir a holiday or buy something nice like a picture or a piece of jewellery

Pumpkittenspice · 19/11/2024 23:42

Ooooh. That’s a lovely surprise OP.

I’d buy a couple of LEGO sets I’ve been coveting. Then a Emma Bridgewater mug, I’ve been wanting one for a while, but could never justify buying one.

A weekend away, a spa day, a nice outfit, tickets to an expensive show, good pair of boots, art

GiddyRobin · 19/11/2024 23:58

Put it to a nice weekend away somewhere. That could pay (maybe nearly all, possibly all!) of an Airbnb in some places, so you could have a little break and feel like you own the place! Or maybe some nice jewellery like others have said. I'd get a nice new ring, it's been a while since I saw one I liked but I'd have a little nosy.

Or how about a redecorate of your bedroom? Maybe not fully but new sheets, try second hand for some nice furniture, a chair, nice throws. Pillows!

Do you like spas? Books? You could do lots of little things maybe. Cheaper spa (there's offers on one's by me for £90), some new clothes/loungewear/fancy pyjamas, some nice home decor maybe. Something that'll make you feel nice about you; body, comfort, home.

It depends what kind of thing you're into!

Bjorkdidit · 20/11/2024 03:49

Save it until you see something and think 'I want to buy/do that'. Surely it will happen sooner or later? Then you'll have the money to pay for it.

I've got my eye on the Lego Botanical Garden which is £290 so that would nicely use up that amount of money.

I probably won't buy it though because I have nowhere to put it or even build it and no time either so it will probably just sit in the box next to the typewriter I've bought and not built yet (although I'm now thinking of selling the typewriter and buying the Botanical Garden if I see it on offer).

Angrymum22 · 20/11/2024 03:52

A lovely cashmere jumper and a facial would be my choice.

AutumnLeaves24 · 20/11/2024 04:25

I'd keep it until there was something I really wanted.

but if it was £300 I was given but couldn't 'keep' it, had to spend it, I'd put it towards a trip to a Christmas market, not sure where as I'd like to go somewhere different but I think I've been to the best ones.

or I'm if I didn't have to tell anyone IRL I'd probably buy Lego!! I'd love Gringots Bank.

Lego Botanical Garden

charlieinthehaystack · 20/11/2024 08:09

I always need clothes i would invest in a damn good coat or some super soft jumpers classics that will never date
otherwise a really special piece of jewellery for me it would be necklaces or bracelets as i dont really wear rings only 2 special ones again something classic and timeless
other wise some really nice perfume perhaps with matching bits and bobs i would never normally be able to buy body moisturisers etc

Flyingtonight · 20/11/2024 08:45

@giddyrobin I love all those options. Now I wish I made a bit more extra surprise money 💰

I love cookbooks and I always make myself think once, twice, thrice before I actually buy any, so I think I might just fill up a basket and finally buy a bunch 😅

Also I'm loving how many people would splurge on lego sets! My sister would love that 😍

@charlieinthehaystack Yes to the clothing investment pieces! I do need a few smarter pieces so even if I just got one that would be a start.
