Communal bins

We have recently moved into a property which has communal bins.

There are 3 x 110l (I think!) household waste bins, 1 x 110l cardboard bin and 1 x 110l glass/plastic bin.

There are 18 x 2-3 bedroom properties sharing these bins. Bins are emptied 2 weekly.

The cardboard bin was emptied on Friday and it was full by Saturday morning.

The household waste bins will be emptied this Friday but all have been full since last Wednesday/ Thursday.

I contacted the council who provide the waste removal service. They have said we have the correct allocation of bins for the number of properties.

I don't dispute this, however the household waste bins are overflowing and likely to cause vermin if not looked into. We love backing onto some scrubland and a small lake so there is a lot of wildlife about.

I suspect there is an element of other properties who have individual bins using recycling bins for larger items, as I saw someone with a large cardboard box heading that way across the street the other day.

Has anyone with communal bins ever requested an individual one instead?

Probably 1100l if communal. I used to work in environmental services and we wouldn’t swap out for individual bins unless you were disabled. Then you’d get a single bin and pink sacks and we’d come and collect from round the back / doorstep as necessary. I used to feel for people who had communal bins as recycling was always being contaminated and council would charge £400 to empty. Talk to the other householders about bin keys and lock it to stop cf using it. Also if address is on box notify council who can photograph and send out a fine.
