SiL is a probation officer and last week some weirdo started filming outside the office where she works. They just got ignored for an hour or so but then they started filming through the doors into reception and trying to film through windows - some of the probationers attending appointments complained about it as they didn't like being filmed while going on (fair enough, not everyone wants to be outed as being on probation via youtube!). The filmer claimed to be an "auditor" and insisted he had the right to film, started taking photographs of staff car registration plates by sticking a camera lens through the gates into the staff car park, got arsey with security so someone (one of the female managers) went out to talk to them and she then ended up being filmed and posted on youtube with loads of comments calling her a Karen and a stupid cow etc etc.
Anyway it turns out this is a thing? What on earth? I sort of get the idea of reinforcing people's right to film the police when carrying out actual policing (at demonstrations etc) but wtf is going to be achieved by deliberately winding people up at work and causing distress to vulnerable members of the public (because actually a lot of probationers are vulnerable people).
