I caused chaos on the road this morning

Chucked it down with snow overnight and my car was covered in snow. I cleared the windows and drove off to go to work. I got to a roundabout where you can turn left, go straight on or turn right (as you do on roundabouts, I was going straight on) and there was an avalanche on the windscreen. I'd forgotten to clear the roof. It covered the windscreen and the wipers were jammed and I couldn't see a bloody thing.

I had to stop the car and get out and clear it off the windscreen. I was in the left lane, so anyone going straight on or right could still get by. A man behind me with a moustache and a trilby hat on started honking and shaking his fist because I had delayed him by about, ooh, 90 seconds.

Feeling a right fool. Trilby Man looked like someone out of a 1970s sitcom.

I didn't know you had to clear the roof of snow, although I didn't sit the UK driving test, perhaps it's stated in that?

I thought so. I hadn't been rude to anyone on this post, I was expressing an opinion without needing to be, but I guess some people come online and feel it gives them carte blanche to be be rude.

Pity your observation skills that noted this guys mustache during all the chaos didn't help you notice all the snow on your roof, that would have been helpful.

I didn't notice the snow on the roof at the time I saw Trilby Man, no, because it wasn't on the roof, it was on the windscreen by that point ...

You acknowledge that you created mayhem but then seem annoyed that the driver behind you wasn't very happy, you can't have it both ways! Of course he wasn't happy, he probably almost hit the back of your car and would have most likely taken the blame. So I suspect it wasn't because you held him up that he was annoyed. Lesson learned, make sure you clear your car next time. Not sure what his appearance had to do with anything either.

I once had to drive home from work in heavy snow which had come on during the afternoon. Before getting into the car I removed the snow from the windows, roof etc but due to the combination of weather and rush hour traffic progress was very slow and as it was still snowing the car was quickly snow covered once more. Of course the windscreen wipers, heater and heated screens kept the windows clear but the roof was probably soon heavily covered again as we sat in a traffic jam for about an hour at least. The other cars in the queue were in the same boat, not sure what we should have done about that in the light of all the comments on here!

You have done a public service OP by sharing this event. Just think of all the people you have helped, now that many others now realise they need to clear their car roof.

H salt, I think it just made me feel kinda down. I guess if I’m analysing it properly there wasn’t really much anyone could say to the original post that would have been upbeat because it wasn’t really funny so I’m not sure what OP was wanting, but that aside it just for more negative and more - och just it was like the same crappy things being said over and over over and I guess it just made me feel really fed up. It’s not that I can’t cope with negativity but I think how many people just kept saying the same thing when it had been said so many times and I just felt like , what do you want OP to do? You’ve all said it just enough. That kinda post and all the replies just really make me feel fed up sometimes and I just threw caution to the wind today and couldn’t help myself say it! 😂 it just get like one of those big pile on / I know everyone has said it but I really feel I need to say it too, virtue singally pile on stuff that just makes me feel really sad.

Yeah, I feel the same. When people post about how nasty MN can be, the excuses responses are usually that people give tough, honest advice on here and that AIBU is brutal and to avoid that topic unless you're tough. But this is in chat and nobody was really giving advice. Just posting to put the boot in. Utterly pointless.

Sometimes its really shitty here, but on the other hand some posts really deserve it - Personally I felt this one was a real "ooh, look at me, I'm so silly, and a nasty man got upset with me" and really, not helping anyone - sure there may be a few more among us who will clear the snow from the tops of their cars now
