Help! What does your baby wear in a wrap?!

So last time I had a baby I had a ring sling and a carrier. This time I have a lovely stretchy wrap and a decent baby wearing parka so there's already loads of layers over her.

In the ring sling I put her in a soft pram suit and leave the coat a bit undone, but obviously in a wrap she's strapped tight to me and in the freezing weather I don't know what to put her in.

Layers? A suit but she'll get really hot surely?

What are you all doing?

Mmmm just casting my mind back to when mine was a babe. It was lockdown so we weren’t out quite as much, but my daughter was in her wrap over winter and I did get out most days for a walk.

From memory I think i mainly had her in layers and a cardi (say a nice snuggly wool one that breathes). If she’s against your body and you also have one of those coats that zips over the wrap, I think that’s about right.
And a hat. Nice thick socks too.

Maybe if it was ultra cold (below zero) you might step it up.

Enjoy baby wearing!!

if you’re on Facebook there are some great baby wearing groups which I found really helpful.

I had a September baby, so the weather was completely ambient for a time when he was really little, so just a onsie or two piece.

Ooh just remembering that I also sometimes put a light blanket around her when it was really cold - under my coat i think.

I’m sure others will have better remembered advice than me… !

The best thing is thin, soft layers such as merino wool or pure cotton. The sling counts as one layer, as does your body. So if you also have a coat over the top, baby is wearing three extra layers than you are. Remember to add booties and a hat!

You may be ok with just a vest and onesie, but make sure feet and legs aren’t being restricted - if you’re using a onesie, baby needs to be in one that’s a bit too long.

You could also consider long leg warmer style booties, and mittens.

Ok thanks ladies!

Despite it not being my first baby wearing rodeo, DS is now nearly 13 and was born in the middle of a heatwave in the south east of England, he spent the first 3 months of his life in a vest!
This wee poppet is 8 weeks and we now live in the Highlands so all my knowledge is not only old but not relevant 😂

I'll layer her up in thin cotton and wool, my wrap is a stretchy cotton one and apart from her legs covers her well.

The first thing I bought was a parka with an insert, it's bloody freezing up here so a baby wearing coat was an absolute must.

This brought back lovely memories for me of DD in a wrap sling 15 years ago. In winter when I had a poncho, she was in vest and onesie and she was warm. Woolly hat and some funky baby leg warmers, socks and booties for the sticky-out bits.
