I try using hair masks, I’ve used curly girl method, intensive conditioners, it’s so so dry and I need help!
it has bleach in it but it’s just as dry when it’s not bleached.
please ignore my terrible photo editing!

Could be worth asking in Style & Beauty if you don't get replies here?

BadPeopleFan · 18/11/2024 18:47

Do you use heat to style it (blow dryer, straighteners, curling tongues etc?)
I have started washing my hair at night and plaiting it, it is dry by morning and in lovely soft waves. It didn't take long to get into much better condition.
Another thing worth trying is buying the boxed hair dyes for the conditioner in them. It is much more nourishing than normal conditioner and works a treat on dry hair (can work out expensive though!)

Could be protein overload, that's what mine gets like with too much protein. Use clarifying shampoos for a while and protein free conditioner

I've just started using Merwaves. Have a look at their website as it has videos to help show you if your hair needs more protein or more moisture.
Since I've started using it (1 week and counting) my hair is so much nicer.

PrincessFluffyPants · 18/11/2024 18:54

How often do you wash it? How do you dry it?

I have curly/wavy bleached hair. It looks and feels better if I wash it every two days, it seems to need water to keep it hydrated and soft. If I only wash it once or twice a week it feels very dry and crispy.

I also use hair oil (Moroccan or olaplex) mixed with curl cream (cantu avocado) when it's still wet after I've washed it. It makes a difference to the texture.

RedRidingGood · 18/11/2024 18:54

Have you tried a Keratin treatment?

Plastictrees · 18/11/2024 18:55

It’s not awful! Honestly if you want to reduce the dryness significantly, you need to ditch the bleach for a while and let the hair re-generate. Keratin blow drys can be amazing but I’m not sure about on bleached hair.

My hair is part bleached and I swear by Keratase hair oil and Olaplex shampoos/conditioners. Not cheap but really effective!

Thank you. It the top that looks so dry and frizzy, think I’ve tried everything recommended and I don’t use any heat on it. I wash it every other day. It just seems to have lost its curl, I’ve not long had it cut.

I am going to grow the bleach out.

Hey, solidarity, my hair is the same from bleach damage. I've cut a lot off and am growing the bleach out as well. No magic answers, but i'm avoiding blow drying or straightening as well as using conditioning masks. I used protein treatments as well but wasn't convinced they were helping. As someone said above, I wonder if there was too much protein going on.

Everythingaches · 18/11/2024 19:26

thanks for the solidarity. I must spend a fortune on hair products.

Yeah same, Olaplex, K18, Moroccan oil conditioner, intensive moisturising treatment, 2 other regular moisturising conditioners, 2 regular shampoos and so on x a million. Fingers crossed no more bleach and growing it out does the trick.

RitaConnors · 18/11/2024 22:35

I've had mine dyed brown at the hairdressers and three inches chopped off to kick start getting my hair healthier. It was three or four months ago now and the hair that has never been bleached is so shiny and soft.

WildWildWestCoast · 18/11/2024 22:58

Quitting silicone and oils has made my hair really healthy. It takes a bit of time to rebalance (a clarifying shampoo every few washes will help) but my hairdresser raves about how healthy my hair is.

Hi how would I quit silicone? What should I use?

Ah yes I forgot this in my post - I also don’t use any silicone hair products or sulfates, it seems to make a big difference.

How can I identify what has silicone and what doesn’t?

I look at the ingredients list and generally avoid ingredients ending in ‘cone’ or ‘siloxane’.

NoEffingWay · 19/11/2024 18:38

I have learnt the only way to stop the straw was to go in heavy handed. I only wash it every three days unless I have to go out. It resembles a chip pan but the grease seems to help it stay in better condition. I have a good two inches chopped off at the hairdressers, and I am weaning myself off the bleach. I miss the balayage blonde but after 4 years it needs a break!

GameOfJones · 19/11/2024 18:52

Get a Keratin/Brazilian blow dry. I have mine done every 6 months and I would never, ever go back to the frizzy mess it is was before I started getting regular treatments.

They say they last 4 to 6 months and I easily get 6 months out of mine and my hair is in great condition. What helps is not using products with any sulfates, silicones or salt.

Do you then wear it straight?
