Tumble drier heat pump or vented?

We have moved and have a space for a vented drier with hose in situ

Or we could get a heat pump or condenser )we already have a condenser but it has a tendency to leak.

I can't say about vented but I've just swapped from a condenser to a heat pump and I love it!! My condenser was always leaking and taking ages to dry the clothes (granted it was old) but I've had the heat pump for a few days now and it's really efficient and it has a timer on it which so far is drying in quicker times than my old candy condenser.

Having gone from a proper tumble dryer to a heat pump...I'd go for a vented tumble tbh.

The heat pump may be cheaper to run, but it takes forever to dry clothes!!!! And I sometimes have to re-wash them because they've taken so long and have a damp smell.

Definitely a heat pump! We used to have a vented dryer and it was really expensive to run. The heat pump dryer seems to have long programme times, but it never takes as long as it says.

We swapped to heat pump from condenser when our last one died and love it
A big load takes about 2.5hrs but it's so cheap to run, it's also got the option of a fast dry that only takes 30 mins but costs more to run on that setting.
We pretty much do all our washing at the weekend where we have half price electric 10-5 so it's been great for us

We have had a heat pump one for a couple of years now, having had a vented previously. The programmes and sensor dries are a bit rubbish, but timed drying works well once you get a feel for how long things need. Undoubtedly much better in terms of energy consumption. It feels gentler on clothes too.

100% heat pump. Got one recently and it’s changed my life, and the running costs per year are only about a third of a vented or condenser dryer. Ours is a Hisense one.

@NewYearNewJob2024 I think there’s something wrong with your dryer if it’s taking ages and you’re having to rewash things. Mine dries a standard 10kg wash in about 2 hours.

BungleandGeorge · 17/11/2024 20:33

Look up the drying times and load size, they will all give you these statistics. It depends on what make and model and age of machine you have currently and what you want to buy. Some are better than others. Also depends on how much you’ll use it. Heat pumps are much slower but use less electricity. It also uses less electricity if you dry similar things together and have a high spin speed on your washer. Personally I don’t want to wait 3 hours for the heat pump. Shirts take 15 mins in my condenser

GonnaBeASuperSaver · 17/11/2024 20:36

Heat pump. Does take longer mmbut cheaper to run. However I find when putting in 2nd load if it's already been on just before it's quicker to dry 2nd load.
I do min 2 loads a day and my electric bill has lowered a lot since last year and that's the only thing we've changed

Washywishy · 17/11/2024 20:38

We used to have a vented but moved and now have a condenser and its nowhere near as good!

DGPP · 17/11/2024 20:41

We have a Miele heat pump and love it. It takes a while to get used to and I needed a second lint sponge as it was constantly beeping to be cleaned and swapped. But now I’ve got used to it it’s great

DilemmaDelilah · 18/11/2024 07:54

We have a heat pump. It's A+ rated and very economical, but takes forever to dry things. It's fine for us as there are only 2 of us and we don't need to wash a lot of bedding, towels etc., but if I was doing laundry for a family think I would go back to vented.

BoobyDazzler · 18/11/2024 07:59

We have a Samsung heat pump and it’s very good and cheap to run. You can also dry things in it you couldn’t in a conventional dryer as it doesn’t get hot so doesn’t damage clothes. That said, I’d have a vented if I could because the heat pump takes bloody ages.

nodogz · 18/11/2024 08:16

Heat pump. Cheaper to run.

It's a longer cycle but washing cycles are longer now too so you can sync up all your weekend washing and drying loads

BuffaloCauliflower · 18/11/2024 10:06

Those who are saying the heat pump takes longer, how long does the quicker one take?! Because two hours for a entirely full load of cotton clothes feels really fast to me 😂 but yes being able to chuck anything in and not worry about it is so much easier for me, everything gets tumbled now

doodleschnoodle · 18/11/2024 10:12

Heat pump. So much cheaper to run and it's far gentler on clothes as they operate at lower temps. Stuff doesn't come out steaming and boiled. I tumble dry everything in ours now and no shrinkage compared to our old one. Ours takes 2-2.5 hours for a load from our 11kg washing machine, which is fine for me.
