I need advice! Feel so overwhelmed, can't keep on top of everything I need to do in my life!

As my username suggests, I have a billion and one things to do / organise / clean / buy / research / book / sort out / look into / begin .....you get the picture.

Weekdays I spend doing the school run, going to work, school pick up, go home and cook. DH comes home and takes whoever has a club to a club. I clean up and then crash on the sofa till bedtime. This is a really shit existence. It's affecting my mental health and I just don't have the motivation to do anything as I'm either too overwhelmed by it all or more often than not I'm just exhausted. In the evening I just want to switch off, not bloody do work again.

If you've got your shit together juggling family, work and home, how in God's green earth do you do it?!

I need some advice, tips, stories of solidarity, anything to just get me started!

Lower your standards.

I also told my DS he needed to pick one sport, not 5, the one still takes up half our week but at least we aren't out of the house 7 days a week anymore,

Can you drop your work hours if you can afford to?

Get and use a slow cooker
Dishwasher also

If the children are of an age get them to help with the house

This time of year is always busier though I think!

I feel the same. I came home from work on Friday with a migraine and only just feeling better. I’ve left the housework this weekend.
All I’ve done is walk the dogs, cook and read. Need to get the kids doing more. When we all do chores together I’m amazed at how quickly they get done. Need to do more of that I think.

  1. Children help with chores.
  2. Easier dinners?
  3. Routines, everything in its place.
  4. Can you afford a cleaner?
  5. Go to sleep earlier instead of crashing on the sofa.
  6. Can you take any ‘me time’ during your lunch break at work? e.g. Go for a walk, read a book?
  7. Listen to music or a podcast or audiobooks that you enjoy to and from work.
  8. Try to eat foods that make you feel a bit more energised , drink water regularly.
  9. With DH (and kids), have a blitz on chores for a couple of hours on a Saturday morning.
  10. If you can afford it, buy a bit more school uniform, socks, pants so need to do laundry less often.

Thing is, even if I look like I have it all together (I doubt I do), there’s always more I want to do so I never feel like I do, eg I’ve got 3 courses on the go, one involving essays which I’m crap at, and then loads of fun things I want to do for myself on my to do list which obviously keep falling to the bottom of the list! And exercise isn’t even on the to do list , fell off a long time ago!

3 kids and their school stuff is enough, then add in their hobbies, my own job, my hobbies, exercise, house stuff eg redecorate living room. It’s just life! But it’s a lot.

Lower standards
Instead of one big massive swirling list, I have smaller lists and every day/weekend, I pick a manageable amount of things I'm actually going to do.
When ds goes to football on a Tuesday I drop him off and sit in the car doing my admin- paying bills, paying school trips, putting things in calendars etc. it's an absolute game changer and claws back done of the dead time spent waiting for clubs.
We both work from home but our youngest always goes to breakfast club from 8am, dh drops him, which gives me a clear hour in the morning. We do have to pay that but it's cheaper than a cleaner so if it gives me an hour to clean/tidy/ put away etc then it pays

We have an incredibly busy life, with sports clubs every day of the week and busy jobs, plus we both do our own sports and have a dog. Unfortunately the compromise is that the house is sometimes messy, there's washing everywhere, and we have a long list of DiY to do. 🤷‍♀️
