I don't know how to do this, or rather what's a safe way to buy a ticket. The venue doesn't have any left to buy directly. There's other websites like viagogo but I don't know if it's OK, or what sites are safe as have of scams with concert tickets. It's my DDs Christmas present, and a lot of money for us. It's a Gracie Abrams concert at the O2.

I bought Harry Styles tickets from StubHub a couple of years ago. It was fine.

SummerInSun · 17/11/2024 17:41

Viagogo isn't a scam - it's an entirely reputable ticket resale website (of course touts buying tickets and instantly reselling them at double the price on Viaggo is a scummy thing to do, but that doesn't mean the site itself isn't legitimate).

We buy tickets on Viaggo from time to time including for gigs at the O2, and never had a problem. You need to understand that you generally won't get the ticket until a few days before the gig, when it's released to the original purchaser and they then transfer it to you. You will need to O2 app and the ticket will be a constantly refreshing QR code on your phone.

My DH also sold some tickets on Viaggo once when we couldn't go to something as we wound up double-booked (we did NOT charge a premium, just got our money back and someone else got to see a band they wanted to see and our seats weren't left empty). He had some questions and contacted Viaggo and thought their customer support was excellent.

Viaggogo say that if the ticket you buy isn't transferred, they'll source you another ticket if they possibly can, so that's helpful. The other thing to do is to make sure you buy on a credit card as if you do accidentally buy from a scammer, your credit card provider will likely refund you the money.

PrincessOfPreschool · 17/11/2024 18:06

Thank you. That's helpful. I don't have a credit card though 🤔

I'm going to get a credit card. How long does the credit card guarantee for. I won't know if it's a scammer until March. Surely the credit card won't refund that late?

Try Twickets they are a fan resale site which is 100% reputable and won't rip you off

It’s expensive (but so are the Viagogo ones) but AXS (official ticket distributor) still have a premium pair of tickets for £270 each on their site.

Her friends already booked so she needs a specific area (standing) - and not paying 270 😲😬. There was a viagogo for 106 but I don't have a credit card yet so by the time I get one it might be gone. I could get one easily. I just don't have one as not organised enough to pay it off at the right time etc.

If you didn't have to have something to show for a Xmas present I would also have suggested Twickets. I've never not got what I needed from there.

However because it's face value only you'll tend to get alerts only a few days before the gig rather than months out as people will hang on to them in case circumstances change, or they get ill the day before & need to offload them.

But I've bought tickets from Stubhub in the past and it's been fine. Just cost a bit more money.

You don't need "something to show" You can just write a message in a Xmas card or make her a certificate.

TiramisuThief · 18/11/2024 07:53

Really? If I was giving someone a present of tickets, they would be actual tickets not some sort of iou.

You rarely get physical tickets these days so even if you’d bought them when they went on sale you wouldn’t have an actual ticket.

I’ve got my nephew tickets for Christmas, but I’m getting a gift certificate on Etsy because they’re on an app - have a look on there there’s loads.

Agreed, Twickets is reputable and face value only, I’ve always managed to get tickets from there.

I would expect it to be covered until the actual event takes place for gig tickets.

Ubugly · 18/11/2024 08:03

It’s basically all digital now on the app especially places like AwS, Ticketmaster and the 02.
Op if you get them then I print out like the ad if the concert and put in a card!

RedRiverShore5 · 18/11/2024 08:05

Viagogo is OK just usually overpriced, you will get your money back if it goes wrong, though of course this does not include compensation if you get turned away at the door or any other expenses but you will get your ticket price back

stanleypops66 · 18/11/2024 08:12

I've used viagogo and never had an issue. In fact their customer care was great when a concert was cancelled and got mg money back in a few days.

PrincessOfPreschool · 18/11/2024 22:14

Thanks all. Tickets didn't have anything yet. I can't really wait till just before if it's to be a present but I will definitely use in future.

@PrincessOfPreschool I’m not sure how old your daughter is but do check the conditions - it’s over 16s only in the standing section. I wouldn’t want you to spend out on tickets only for her to be refused entry.

PrincessOfPreschool · 19/11/2024 20:28

Thank you. She is 16 but I guess she should take ID then.

Tickets or ticket swap are both safe ways to buy resale tickets and they would be cheaper than viagigo. You can set an alert on the web sites to let you know if any become available.

leia24 · 19/11/2024 20:36

Via gogo, ticketmaster resale, stubhub are all fine. Twickets is good.

OnTheBoardwalk · 19/11/2024 20:43

Only used viagigo once and the physical tickets got lost in the delivery system. Not their fault but they dragged their heals sorting it out. Hours and weeks on calls.

They were still promising they’d get us into the gig when the doors had opened and we were in the pub outside. They then said ‘nope nothing we can do we'll refund you the money' and hung up

desperate to get into the gig we checked ticketmaster and got 2 resale cracking seats and were in before the support act so maybe keep trying the official seller site?

SuperLemonCrush · 19/11/2024 20:52

I have frequently bought resale tickets from Ticketmaster - just keep looking over the next couple of weeks/nearer the time - even with a small group I have been able to get tickets for standing area by filtering for single tickets and buying them as they pop up.I tend to check early morning/last thing at night and you sometimes need to move fast! Credit card needed and tickets need to be on a phone app for most gigs, now. Good luck!
