My two girls are 13 and 10, so one believer and one non believer. My little one is very excited and because this will be our last Santa Christmas I want to really enjoy and make the most of it. Usually we have a walk around the park the. Head into town for a hot chocolate before heading home and starting the Christmas prep.

We have a buffet dinner and then put our Xmas jammies on to watch a movie before they head to bed.

We also got a lovely advent Christmas book ( Santas crazy countdown) to read the month of December so were excited to start that on the first dec

What does your Xmas eve look like ?

Dh will be working, he starts at 5am but usually finishes early on Christmas Eve so I expect he'll be home at about 10am. Dc and I will prep the veg, stuff the turkey etc for the next day and then a quick last minute tidy. We do a big clean on the 23rd so just litter trays and hoovering to be done. We always have soup for lunch and then I make an excuse to send them upstairs while I fill the Santa box with new PJs, bath bombs, hot chocolate stirrers and toys for the cats (dc are 11 and 17 but it is tradition). We all sit down to hot chocolate with all the trimmings and watch Raymond Briggs Father Christmas, which dh will complain about watching but will still laugh at Santa's bare bum and will sing along with the music. Around 3pm we'll walk to the village pub for a drink and hopefully see a few neighbours and friends in there, then back home to prepare a nice cheeseboard with charcuterie and pork pie. Baths/showers and into PJs after eating, probably a film and then mince pie etc out for Santa. After the dc are in bed, dh and I will have some port, more cheese and watch Ghost Stories for Christmas, before putting out presents and stockings and then bed. I worked over Christmas for many years (NHS) and I'm so glad that I don't have to anymore and so grateful to those that do.

Very few people saying working, which is surprising. CE a normal working day for most people, I would have thought?

It's my first Christmas since losing the last of my immediate family, so I'm going on holiday.
Christmas Eve I've a fancy restaurant booked where I can have my own feast of seven fishes by ordering various fish and seafood starters. No washing up or lingering fish smells in the kitchen afterGrin

Then I'll probably have a few drinks on my balcony watching the world go by as it digests. Or see if I can find a local church for midnight mass.

Older teens so no Santa stuff really (although they do get a stocking).
We will just chill out all day and then in the evening we have tickets for a music event at a local posh hotel so will go there and have a few drinks before home and a buffet and into Xmas PJs to watch a movie.
The DC "pretend" to enjoy it to make me happy but they actually love it (DD confessed last year)

I'm sorry that it is because of loss but oh my! That sounds like an awesome Christmas Eve! I hope you have an amazing time :)

We often go to a panto on Christmas Eve, but this year, we're seeing Peter Pan earlier in December as our "Christmas Show", so I'm not sure what we'll do in the middle of the day. I try to get the veggies prepped, e.g. potatoes par-boiled and ready to roast, carrots and parsnips chopped, etc.

In the morning, we have a North Pole Breakfast/brunch In the early evening we have something quick and easy and usually fish based (this year, salmon tagliatelle) and then we have Christmas Eve boxes, and the rest of the evening is sort of planned out by that.

Hot chocolate and sweet snack
Nice relaxing bath with new bath bomb and put on new PJs
Read the new story (this year it's the Jolly Christmas Postman)
Sprinkle the reindeer food, set up the snacks and drink for Santa, carrot for Rudolph, hang up a key for Santa as we don't have a chimney
Read "The Night Before Christmas"
Hang stocking
Tuck into bed with new teddy

Once asleep, we then do all last minute wrapping, stuff the stocking, take a bite out of the carrot and eat Santa's snacks, and drag all the presents downstairs for the morning.

@GiddyRobin The ‘visiting his ancestors’ thing sounds very familiar!

Getting proper white christmases is worth all the strangeness though.

It's very Norwegian! I love how passionately they can be about their history. DH is a historian and his area is Norway, I find it so interesting.

That is so true! I can't believe the proper snow sometimes! It's like living in a Christmas card! And their food is definitely fascinating.
