My DD is now obsessed with matcha tea and I thought I would try and find her some good quality tea for Christmas and also some of the equipment that is needed to make it.
Anyone do this themselves and can recommend what makes the perfect cup. Any brands of Matcha tea that you buy?

We have bought the odd sachet you dissolve in a cup, but wondering like coffee, if there is the art to making a really good cup of this.

It's all about presentation

So a beautiful matcha tea cup and whatever goes with it to make the tea in to then pour into the cup

I love matcha but much prefer to have less milk than is in an average coffee shop matcha latte, so I make it at home.

Weirdly, there is so many satisfaction in appreciating the colour that I really think a glass mug is important. I got a large one in IKEA for about £2 but lots of big supermarkets sell them. I also use one of those cheap little battery operated milk frothers to mix my matcha/water paste. A tea small tea strainer sieve to sieve the matcha powder is essential too.

I get ceremonial grade matcha from the tea makers of London (or direct from Japan if I'm feeling spendy). eBay has lots of chawan (handmade teabowls) but she really needs to hold and feel them to pick the perfect one for her...

Eventually you'll find yourself buying a variable temperature control kettle and all the kit haha
A good bamboo chasen (whisk) to mix it is a must. There's different consistencies, thin or thick foamy consistency. Good Xmas gifts could be other green teas, a "tea pet" to ceremonially splash a drop of tea on, the little bamboo spoon to scoop the matcha maybe.

Cheaper matchas- are best for lattes and iced tea, or baking. Matcha cheesecake is to die for 😻

She could also get (or even make) wagashi (the beautiful small sweets to accompany matcha in a tea ceremony).

You need an electric frother. Game changing. I use it for everything now - hot chocolate, horlicks, etc.

Thank you @LyingPaintSample - I am intrigued by the idea of variable kettle control

DD bought herself an amazing cup for maccha when we did some tea tasting on holiday, so I think ill get a very good whisk and one of those measuring tea spoons (she has an frother )
Will look at Tea makers of London.
